Revue de presse
Teaching Children to Read: The Teacher Makes the Difference is a wonderful textbook, and I have greatly enjoyed using it with my teacher candidates. It is a highly comprehensive, up-to-date, well-researched, and practical guide to teaching literacy in elementary school classrooms. It is a valuable text as well as resource for teacher candidates in a variety of stages in their preparation programs. This text in all of its revisions has continually been the best available and the most comprehensive resource. -- Jane Hunt, Loyola University Chicago
This book has a lot of great information about major literacy topics. It has a wealth of clear information about each topic, and provides many useful instructional practice examples. It also did a great job of weaving current topics such as differentiation, ELL instruction, and motivation throughout the text. -- Meadow Sherrill Graham, West Virginia University--Ce texte fait référence à l'édition Printed Access Code.

I ordered the ebook and when the access code came in the mail (can't you just make it instant access like other ebooks?), I discovered that for $66.85, YOU ONLY GET ACCESS FOR 180 DAYS! Nowhere in the description does it mention that! I realize this is a textbook intended for college coursework and most buyers won't hold on to it, but if I'm paying that much money, I should be able to keep it as long as I want.
My next thought was that if I can only access it for 180 days, maybe I can just print it and have a hard copy on hand. But you can only print 10 pages at a time, and it's almost 600 pages long. I don't have time for that, and the cost of printing would be obscene anyways. The other downfall with a paper copy is that you don't have access to all the videos & links that are provided in the digital version.
But Pearson (a company that I've come to recognize as the biggest scammer in the educational publishing industry) has it all figured out. Get people to spend the money initially, but then force them to pay extra for something they can actually use: for $20 more, you can have 8 years of access to the ebook or you can order the loose leaf copy (at least the shipping is free!). If you want both, that will be $40.
It's so irritating because if you're interested in professional development in the education field, you can't escape Pearson. Because I want the information in this book so badly, I'm paying the extra money, but I'm not happy about it.
I just felt like I needed to at least warn potential buyers: this is a rip-off of the worst kind. Make sure you know what you're getting before you purchase this, or any other ebook from Pearson!
