Présentation de l'éditeur

When the truth is your greatest danger, and the enemy knows the truth, things can only go downhill when the enemy finally gets the proof. And that's the proof the Hashashin get when they steal what the Vatican doesn't even know it has. Now the infallible decrees of two Twelfth Century popes and three kings, stolen by the Hashashin, threaten to catapult the bigotry, bias, and religious blood baths of the Third Crusade straight into the Twenty-First Century. When Templars Sean Callahan and Marie Curtis are drawn into the mess, they face an ancient enemy that has already nearly won the battle, a newly elected Mexican pope being undermined by entrenched Vatican powers, world class scholars who will sell their prestige to the highest bidder, and terrorists lingering over lattes in sidewalk cafes. Moving from Rome to London, Switzerland, and Saudi Arabia, Callahan and Curtis are desperate to find some way to stem the success the Hashashin are having enlisting the majority of moderate Muslims in their Jihad. Out maneuvered at each step by the Hashashin, only a last ditch roll of the dice has any chance of success. But it's the only chance they have.

crazy about all the arty esoterica, Terrence O'Brien's The Templar

HASH(0x8f9f3d8c) étoiles sur 5 Ripping read -- rife with errors 9 décembre 2010

I am torn about how many stars to give this excellent novel. It is definitely of the caliber of the DaVinci Code and its progeny. I have really enjoyed reading it.

However, it is filled with typos, misspellings, grammar errors, punctuation mistakes, and even a few formatting errors. Clearly no one read it after it was formatted for the kindle. You can even see where spell-check let down the proofreader (assuming there was one), by substituting words that are close to the correct word, but have no place in the sentence. I have found as many as 3 mistakes on a page -- but the average is about one every three or four pages. For me this distracts enormously from the book.

I'm going (spelled "gong" in the book, twice) with 5 stars for content since it really is quite good, but please, folks, let's clean up this mess.

The Knights Templar established in 1122 as a protector and instrument of the Church, after less than 200 years found itself progressively under attack by both the Church and Monarchy and appeared to retreat and disappear by early 14th century. Covertly the K T continued to grow stronger, position itself in world finances and influence directly and indirectly the welfare of the Church and Western values. In 1385, Pope Urban VI signed a concordat with the K T to secretly, mutually support each other; renewed at the pleasure of each succeeding Pope. We enter the story in present day with the current Pope opting out of the concordat, the K T fully operative but restricted in offering direct help to the Church and a full cast of radical Muslim terrorists. A document dated 1189, the Treaty of Tuscany, is found which declares a papal and major monarchy agreement intent on eradicating Islam. If authentic, it would become a rallying point for the Muslim world and a disaster for the Church and the West. The story explodes early on and the action and intrigue never lets up. Continuously entertains, educates and keeps one guessing. Well drawn, interesting and varied characters; crisp dialog. The most interesting character enters after the half way point, the new Pope from Mexico, Pedro Sanchez; he is unaffected by his new status, blunt, clever, insightful and fully willing to challenge papal doctrine for the truth. Could hardly put it down for 2 days. Highly recommended.

Overall I enjoyed this book. Good story, sound characters etc.

I did think it labored in some of the first half of the story though as the pace of the story seemed to get bogged down with explanations of people/places/things that could have been brought out better as the story moved forward.

Oh, and watch out for those 'speed-bumps', the spelling and grammar errors etc. At one point I found myself going back a few pages to check if I had missed a character as at one place the character Santini was spelt as Santani. Best to proof read the Kindle version before publishing. I found that out when I published my 2 novels and found that the Kindle version had changed from the printed form.

Overall though, well done and I hope you bring out a followup soon as I would like to see what Callahan, Marie and Jean do next.

I took a gamble on this unknown author, I've gotten many free books in the same genre that have been a disappointment, so $2.99 was actually a bit of a risk. I'm glad I did, since it was one of the most enjoyable novels I've read in a long time.

If you enjoyed the DaVinci Code, this has a lot of the same elements - but it's a bit more believable, so it's easier to suspend disbelief and just go along with the story. As other reviewers have pointed out, an ancient treaty is discovered that could have huge ramifications for the modern world, the Catholic church, and Christianity in general. I really liked the fact that the author revealed what was in the treaty early on rather than stringing out the mystery - when the only thing that keeps you reading is the desire to find out 'what was the big deal over what they found?' - I find that tactic often goes along with a weak story. Instead, the contents of the treaty are revealed early on but the story is so good that you want to find out what happens next rather than being disappointed by the end of the mystery.

The only problem I had with the book was that it ended and I couldn't get anything else from the author! I did check Amazon to see if he had any other novels, but sadly that was not the case. Bummer, because I definitely would have liked to read more.

Terrance O'Brien can really, really write! If you like Vince Flynn, Jack DuBrul, Brad Thor, Dan Brown and similar authors you are going to love this new author. I started reading this book on a Saturday morning and couldn't stop reading until I finished it. The book is nonstop action with exciting plots, intrigue where the stakes are high, a driven hero named Callahan, who is my new favorite character, and an ending that will leave you begging for his next book. This is an exciting and satisfying read and I highly recommend it.
