5.0 étoiles sur 5 Ridiculously amazing book 13 mai 2014
Par Kindle Customer - Publié sur Amazon.com

In the process of going from blog to book, I’ve seen so many writers ditch the raw nerve and conversational tone that made people fall in love with their magnificently brilliant thought vomit in the first place. Not Jason Good. In list after list he consistently manages to be authentic and laugh out funny without being bitter or obvious. I couldn’t pick a favorite list or even my top ten, because they were all brilliant, perfect, hilarious and so relatable. I’d would say that Jason was the perfect man, but that would be a lie, because he freely admitted to unapologetically leaving his ear-wax crusted Q-tips out for his wife to find, and that…well, that’s just effing disgusting. What is NOT a lie is saying this: “This is Ridiculous. This is Amazing,” is hands down, the best humor book about family life I have ever read.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A book of lists of parenting experiences than any parent can relate to and get a few grins from reading... 17 août 2014

I'm always up for a good laugh. I don't often get those laughs from books I read, but occasionally it can happen. When I was offered a review copy of this book, I took it in hopes that it would offer me a few good laughs, and it did. The book isn't fantastic, but it certainly isn't dull, and there are plenty of things in the book that all parents will be able to relate to.

Like the title says, this is a book of lists, as such, it is pretty concise and you could probably sit and read the whole thing from cover to cover in about an hour. As such, I view this book as more of a "bathroom reader" sort of book. By that I mean that it's a book that you can pick up, open to any page, read for a few minutes, get a few chuckles from, and then put down after completing a few short chapters.

In order to help you get a better grasp on what you'll expect to find in this book, I'll give you a partial list from one of the chapters entitled "Car Talk," which gives a list of things that kids like to argue about in the car when the trip is longer than three minutes:

1. Whether we're going fast or slow.

2. Where we're going.

3. Why we're going there.

4. When we're going to be there.

5. Who gets which car seat.

6. Who owns the strip of fabric between their car seats.

7. Who can kick the chair in front of them the hardest.

8. Why the windows won't go all the way down in the back seat.

9. Whether the windows should be up or down.

10. Why Daddy is so quiet.

If you found this list funny, then it's likely you'd enjoy most of this book. If you didn't find this list funny, then you should take a pass on this book. In my opinion, the book is a tad pricey for what it is. Also, I'm of the opinion that this book might make for a better gift than something one would purchase for themselves. It is what it is, and I liked it fine.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Admit it, you think children are funny!! 13 août 2014

This is truly a funny book. It's very sarcastic and does use some profanity, but nothing that most parents are thinking in their heads anyway.

There are 71 lists, broken into 6 categories. They're short, but so very funny!

For instance, the list titled When Listening is Impossible, about witty responses to kids who talk constantly, in the other room, led me to great comebacks that have totally confused my two boys.
"Mom, can I come out of my room now?"
"No, I don't have the right kind of batteries."

I sat down and read the whole book, laughing at the things lots of us think but are afraid to admit!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Really funny! 14 août 2014

A great book...filled with mostly humorous observations and thoughts, this book stands out to me in that it sets out to be funny, and it actually succeeds. Now, not every person is going to think that all the jokes are funny - I certainly didn't think so. But overall, this is a great book that's really funny (or maybe "it's funny because it's true" kind of deal) that is easy and fun to read.

My only regret is reading it a day after having surgery - laughing caused a lot of pain, but man at least it shows that it's a funny rather than "cute" book, so for me, this book is top notch!

Highly recommended!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Required reading room material 19 mai 2014

This isn't a parenting book that happens to be funny--it's an instant comedy classic that just happens to be about parenting. While making fun of one's kids and parenting is quickly becoming ubiquitous and overdone, "This is Ridiculous, This is Amazing" transcends the genre and stands apart as something special. Like Louis CK, Jason Good possesses the ability to make us laugh in recognition of those thoughts we all have as parents by approaching them from completely innovative and unexpected angles, and like CK, he is able to do this by establishing his credentials as a father with the audience--this is a guy who obviously loves his kids and family, and the time he has spent in the trenches earns him the right to comment on the ridiculousness he observes.

This is one of the rare books I have read that is literally laugh-out-loud funny. I would recommend it to anyone who has ever had kids, but especially those who are in the middle of surviving very young ones. If, like me, you use your time in the "reading room" as a five minute refuge to hide from your kids, you're going to love having this book in there with you. Each of the 71 entries is funnier than the last--reading 2-3 of these lists is a perfect way to start off your day and a reminder that you are not alone.
