Description du produit

More electronic puppet action in this, the second of the 'Thunderbirds' films. This time round, Tracy Island's resident genius Brains designs a revolutionary new aircraft, the Skyship One, only to see it hijacked on its maiden voyage. The Thunderbirds team get ready to come to the rescue, but with Alan Tracy and Lady Penelope trapped on board the Skyship, and Thunderbirds 1 and 2 heading into a trap set up by the hijackers, it's not going to be that easy.

Thunderbird 6 was the second feature spin-off from the hit Gerry Anderson puppet-animation TV series Thunderbirds, and revolved around a new addition to the line-up of International Rescue's five emergency craft. The plot sees Lady Penelope, Alan, Tin-Tin and Parker as the only passengers on the maiden, round-the-world flight of a futuristic airship, which is hijacked in a bid to capture Thunderbirds 1 and 2. From the moment Alan arrives on a Bond-style jetpack, the film veers away from the TV show into espionage adventure territory, and while the only people International Rescue rescue are their own members, they kill a fair number of baddies. The global tour means there are more locations than ever, and though the story takes a long time developing, the Die Hard-on-an-airship finale delivers the most explosive set piece of Gerry Anderson's career. As for Thunderbird 6, opinion remains divided as to whether it's an ingenious twist or a disappointing gimmick, but the movie's blend of model and live-action footage results in two superbly staged stunt sequences. Predecessor Thunderbirds Are Go (1968) is also available, and the Andersons would make one further feature film, Journey to the Far Side of the Sun (1969).

On the DVD: The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 ratio image is sharp, full of detail and boasting well-saturated colours, only the briefest moments of damage and some graininess revealing the age of the print. The film was shot in ultra-wide Techniscope, and there are moments were it is very obvious that parts of the original 2.74:1 picture have been cropped at the sides. The mono sound is powerful with no hint of distortion. Extras are the original trailer, galleries of behind the scenes photos and promotional artwork, though the highlight is the highly informative commentary by Sylvia Anderson and director David Lane where they note how they made this film and worked on Captain Scarlet simultaneously.--Gary S Dalkin

HASH(0x905188d0) étoiles sur 5 THUNDERBIRDS: The Better Movie! 2 juillet 1999
Par Un client - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Cassette vidéo
This movie, unlike its predecessor, "THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO", is an original, fun piece of nostalgia. If you enjoyed the TV show, this movie was a great gathering of the best characters for a full-length romp around the world.
Brains invents something no one takes seriously - an airship. Yet despite the ridicule he suffers for his insane idea, the company built it. And it's bound to be a huge success with the wealthy who want to combine a cruise with a flight around the world.
Meanwhile, Brains is given the task of creating a new rescue craft - Thunderbird 6. This means he can't go on the maiden voyage. So, representing International Rescue on the maiden voyage of the SKYSHIP ONE, Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward, her chauffeur, Parker, and a couple of the Tracy brothers, including Alan and the lovely Tin Tin, soon find that the crew of the ship have been replaced by saboteurs. (What would an episode of Thunderbirds be without some good old sabotage?)
But the purpose of the pirating of the Skyship One seems to focus on Lady Penelope for some unknown reason.
Stopping at some of the most exotic locales worldwide, Penny and the boys must discover why she's being recorded, and what the purpose of the pirates is.
Seems a long way to go just to lure International Rescue into a trap, but hey, this IS a show meant for kids.
Of course the real surprise is the ending, when Airship One seems to be unreachable to rescue the passengers aboard, as it gets snagged on a tower, doomed to fall to the earth, killing all aboard. But the jets of the large, powerful Thunderbirds threaten to topple the huge airship as they approach. Is there a way to rescue them? What will be the new Thunderbird 6?????
This is an absolute MUST-HAVE for Thunderbirds and Gerry Anderson fans. If the 32 episodes they aired is not enough for you, please get this movie! You must also get THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO!, but keep in mind this one is more original, and more fun.
Please enjoy. And if you do, post a review here.

HASH(0x90518d38) étoiles sur 5 More Chit Chat, Less Action, More Boring 30 octobre 2004
Par David Whitman - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Cassette vidéo
In this DVD adaption of the movie, the makers of the film comment on how 'Thunderbird 6' was supposed to be more on the 'chit chat' and character development side and less action. Let's face it, it's kind of hard to have character development with virtually expressionless marionettes that don't smile, frown, or walk. On 'Thunderbirds Are Go', the 60s style dialogue with the limited capabilities on the marionettes was easy to endure because there was plenty of action, explosions, and other SFX. Not the case on Thunderbird 6; what we get here is a long, around the world flight of Skyship 1 and a dull script. It does get a little interesting with the action towards the end, but not enough to pull the weight of the rest of the movie.

Gawd, I miss this show.
I remember growing up. I have many fond memories of watching the Thunderbirds television program, but, surprisingly, most people my age never heard of it. They were too busy with SPEED RACER and MAGILLA GORILLA to take Supermarionation seriously, but I never missed an episode.
THUNDERBIRD 6 is the video collection telling the story of Brain's ill-fated Skyship One; once again, the International Rescue team is the target of familiar puppetry terrorists, but they save the day ... but not without an ample supply of pyrotechnics applied to hundreds of miniature missiles, tanks, and fuel silos set for an incendiary climax. Supermarionation, cleverly mixed with live action photography, make T-6 the film to watch ... with some absolutely spectacularly aerial shows of the new Thunderbird 6 plane in action.
One great flick that's as spectacularly entertaining as it is laughable (every watch a puppet shot through the heart fall from a balcony? you catch my drift).

My favourite bits in the movie is - (i) when Brains tells the men that he makes an airship, and then they laugh their heads off, when I see TB1 & TB2 blow up the Black Phantom's base, and when TB6 is finally launched. This is one of the best Gerry Anderson Century 21 films ever since the launch of the TV series.

HASH(0x90518ee8) étoiles sur 5 Supermarionation beats cartoons. 10 juillet 2002

This is an excellent entry of the Thunderbirds series. In my opinion Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation shows (Supercar, Fireball XL5, Captain Scarlet, etc) are far superior than cartoons. The sets and story lines (especially as the technique evolved through the years when the shows were in color) are so good, you often forget you're watching puppets. Hopefully other shows now on DVD in the UK (ex. Stingray, soon Joe 90) will be available in the US......FAB
