HASH(0x992e9648) étoiles sur 5 Riot's 1988 Comeback CD Was A Killer 5 juillet 2001
Par Benjamin P. Brown - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
Back in 1988, in New York, I received an advanced cassette copy of what was the first Riot album since" Born In America". "Thundersteel" remained in my cassette deck till it literally wore out. This was Riot's first foray into the speed/power metal genre and their efforts were astounding. Featuring a revamped lineup with the exception of mainstay Mark Reale, the new Riot took heavy metal to new technical heights. The title track is absolute 95 MPH speed with a terribly catchy riff. The solo is long and classically oriented with a familliar Accept "Fast As A Shark" like segment. Tony Moore's voice soars high and clear over everything. The bass work by Don Van Stavern is excellent as is the precision drumming by Bobby "The Zombie" Jarzombek." Fight Or Fall" continues the frantic pace. "Fight or fall, in the name of the children, fight or fall in the name of us all" screams Moore, and he means it too! "Sign of the Crimson Storm" is a much slower Sabbath type offering that is excellent as well. "Flight of the Warrior" and "On Wings of Eagles" take us on the manic ride again at 85 MPH. How could a metalhead not love lyrics like "Heat seeker flash headed straight for your heart, one finds the mark and a fireball rocks the sky; men and machines sweet and deadly we are, we rule the wind on titanium wings"." Johnny's Back" is next up. It is very catchy and probably could have been a radio hit for Riot. "Tell the boys to step aside, tell the girls to form a line, the king is back to claim the land again". "Bloodstreets" is a fine ballad, slow and yet powerful at the same time, another "should have been" radio hit. "Run for Your Life" is really the only weak song on the album and it seems like the band needed to fill up four minutes of time on the record. "Thundersteel" concludes in creepy fashion with "Buried Alive (The Tell Tale Heart)", a story of a man who awakens in a coffin at his own funeral. You even hear the sounds of the wake going on outside the coffin! While not a great song, it is good and brings to a close a near-great effort by a very fine group of musicians. This album was not given the promotion it required by CBS and while it charted in Billboard, it died a quick death. The band of course continued battling onward, fighting the good fight and never compromised. Thundersteel is a fine representation of Riot in 1988, or for that matter in 1998. Spend your money on this excellent piece of music.

HASH(0x992e9798) étoiles sur 5 OMFG! DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER 5 décembre 2009

What is wrong with me, I have overlook this album when I was kid due to the lame Album cover. Let's just say, I'm freaking out, this Album is amazing. I can't belive that this album was written back in the 80's, it's better than the crap thats out there now. Thundersteel has probally one of the top guitar solo's I've have ever heard and a sweet harmoning solo that will blow Master of Puppets away. Fight or Fall, will have you headbanging and singing in the chrous. Bloodstreets is another winner, hell I like all the songs in this record. Why wasn't this music push out more in the 80's, this album is sweet. They need to do and aniversary set of this historic album. If you like high vocals check this album out the singer of Riot can put Queensryche singer to shame. It is a bargin, you will thank me for it. I've been having this album in the background while playing COD moderwarfare 2, it's been motivating me to rack points. Metal Forever!!!!!

HASH(0x992e9ad4) étoiles sur 5 Riots Thundersteel, power metal at it's best. 11 janvier 2012

I had to write a review of this metal classic thundersteel after getting upset seeing the three star reviews some people gave it and a guy giving it one star not even for its music content, he should delete his review. I am a huge riot fan and agree that narita and my personal favorite fire down under are awesome as well, and i love the early lineup with singer Guy Speranza R.I.P. but guitar god Mark Reale really moves into a different direction from early riot with thundersteel. This effort is much more agressive, progressive, and powerful especially with the double bass speed drumming of bobby j. Also new vocalist Tony Moore has a much higher pitch and extended range than previous riot vocalists. This was a comeback cd in 1988 after a five year absence. Mark Reale guitarist and founder has put together a whole new band lineup with this cd changing the genre to true POWERMETAL with Tony Moore vocals, Don Van Stavern bass, amazing speed drumming from Bobby(the drummachine)Jarzombeck and some of the best guitar chops, solos, and fills you will ever here from Reale. If you are a fan of powermetal and music that kicks ass and don't own thundersteel yet buy it now, thundersteel is classic powermetal at its best. Fans of Metallica,Megadeath,Maiden and Judas Priest will eat this cd up. TRUST ME. Its hard to believe this cd is 23 years old, it truly has stood the test of time. By the way Mark has done it again in 2011 with a thundersteel reunion cd Immortal Soul, which is amazing as well. Check it out. Thanks Mark Reale for all the great metal over the years. HASH(0x992e9600) étoiles sur 5 Underrated Power Metal Classic! 13 février 2003
Par Mattowarrior - Publié sur Amazon.com

Riot's Thundersteel doesn't get the acclaim it deserves. It takes a lot of their Rainbow influenced sound, and combines it with Thrash and Judas Priest influences to come up with something that was in its beginning stages: power metal. And speaking of "Power Metal", Pantera's album of the same name has many similarites to this. They are both worth the effort tracking down. Awesome double bass drums, blazing speed riffs, amazing appregios and Halford type screams await the listener. Its obvious where bands like Hammerfall and (especially) Nocturnal Rites get a lot of their inspiration. This album stands the test of time, and predicted alot of the trademarks of nineties power metal as well. Buy it immediately!

HASH(0x992e9f90) étoiles sur 5 BEST AMERICAN METAL ALBUM OF THE 80'S 26 janvier 2012
Par ELO1216 - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD Achat vérifié
Thundersteel is an in-your-face, total heavy metal onslaught. It's not thrash, and definitely not hair or pop metal. It is a true HEAVY METAL record. These guys on this record made what should stand as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, American Heavy Metal record of the 1980's. It was what Judas Priest should've been doing if they didn't get caught up in trying to be commercial, and I would even say it went on to influence what they did on the Painkiller album. Mark Reale - incredible guitarist and should have had more success and recognition. May he rest in peace And we ride thundering into the sky
And we ride
On wings of eagles we fly
