C'est là son unique qualité !
Arrivée à 44% de l'ouvrage, je n'en peux plus, j'abandonne. Je me fiche de savoir qui est l'assassin mais je pense qu'il aurait dû d'abord éliminer l'héroïne, la détective Madison Knight. Je ne comprends pas l'entêtement de l'auteur à la rendre aussi antipathique. Elle se rend désagréable à tout le monde. Pas étonnant que sa vie sentimentale soit réduite à zéro.
A part ça, le vide, une écriture plate, des personnages creux, bref rien qui accroche
Il y a tellement de bons livres à lire, ne perdez pas votre temps avec celui là.

I made it through 62% of this book before giving up on it. It just goes on and on and on but getting nowhere. The story’s too slow and too repetitive.

You’ve got Terry, Madison’s lap-dog, who follows her around everywhere but adds nothing whatsoever to the story except to follow her around everywhere. A re-write that takes Terry out of the story completely wouldn’t go amiss.

Cynthia, the girl from the lab; you’d like to think that some kind of same sex affair is about to develop any minute to liven things up, but it never leads anywhere. They just wink and smile at each other and share a little banter, but that’s as far as it goes. Disappointing

Sergeant Winston, who’s always on her case. He just pops up in the story from time to time to glare at her and question why she hasn’t solved the case yet. That’s his only purpose in being in the story, it would seem

Chief McAlexander, who, like Winston, pops up in the story from time to time to glare at her and question why she hasn’t solved the case yet. And also like Winston that’s his only purpose in being in the story as well.

And apart from being infatuated with how heavy all the men in the story are around the stomach area, Madison’s own stomach goes through quite a journey itself; “Queasy stomach” “Madison felt her stomach tighten” “Made her stomach growl” “Her stomach tightened” “Madison’s stomach churned”

I read the book thinking to myself, “If Maddy doesn’t get hold of some Pepto-Bismol, Loperamide or some kind of intensive bowel support probiotic capsules fast we’re going to have a nasty accident at the next crime scene. Either that or she’s going to stink the police station out!”

This is the 1st Madison Knight book I have read. As with all Carolyn Arnold's books (I have read the Amanda Steele stories) this has a great plot line and a surprising ending. I really like Madison who has a great sense of humour but does not suffer fools gladly. I think I will enjoy this series as much as I did the Amanda Steele one. This is the 1st book in the series so a good place to meet Madison. If you enjoy a good pacy thriller this is the book for you.
HIGHLY RECCOMENDED.

This is a great police procedural and a nail biting thriller. Madison Knight is a tough, no frills, single-minded detective. Together with her partner, Terry, she takes the lead in her investigations and refuses to quit until she gets the right result. In her quest to reach the correct conclusion, she refuses to take any nonsense from anyone, her ex boyfriend, her superiors in the Department or anyone else who tries to muddy her path. A young women is brutally murdered for no apparent reason, with her body posed in a way that suggests this is no random killing. Forensics and careful study of the murder scene lead the detectives to a potential suspect quite quickly and at first, you think the rest of the novel will be all about proving that this guy is the murderer but things are a lot more complicated than that. I really liked Madison. Despite her tough exterior, she can still enjoy a girls' night in, watching movies and drinking wine. I also enjoyed the fact that she lusts after the handsome, black, happily married, medical examiner. There were lots of moments like this and it made her a very well-rounded, appealing character. I also enjoyed her relationship with her partner Terry and the fact that despite him apparently having marital problems, she didn't want to push him to tell her about it and he refused to discuss it. Saying so little made it all the more compelling for me. This author really knows how much detail to put in and just as importantly, what to hold back in reserve. The attention to both police procedures and forensic detail was excellent and the multi-layered plot was gripping from start to finish. One small nitpick, I'm afraid there were quite a few grammatical errors that jarred with me, so rather more careful editing would be good. Apart from that, it was a gripping read with very well drawn characters and great attention to detail.

I never thought I'd make it to the end. I get that there are long hours of inactivity and mundane tasks to perform on a murder case, but do we need to hear about it? If the balance between frantic bursts of activity and the personal lives of the detectives and others in the department had been weighed heavily towards the former, this might have been gripping and full of heart-pounding twists. As it was, it dragged, and the publisher's hype was unjustified.

Sorry, but there was nothing special about this book at all. Maddy is a dedicated US cop and has
a partner, Terry and 2 bosses - one a sergeant and another senior to them all.
Terry spends most of the book ringing or slipping off home as he and his wife have problems. Hardly
acceptable behaviour in the middle of a murder inquiry!
Maddy and Terry have a peculiar relationship. I couldn't work out till the end whether they even liked
each other as they seemed to be sniping at each other so often, when she wasn't "punching his shoulder".

The sergeant and his boss seem to dislike Maddy, do no active work and just keep telling her to "find the
murderer" - as if she wasn't trying to do just that.

Very little happened in between the 3 murders and there was no depth to the characters. A lot of the
questioning and discussing the murders was repetitive. I just didn't enjoy this book and will not be reading
any more by this author.
