"Alternative" being actually older by 2 millenia than the young mainstream Occidental medicine.

There are few such books : unique by their content, because so few people have the knowledge, and then the will and possibility to share with the rest of the world.

The many exercises described, or similar can be found in any good yoga book, but I was interrested into the recipes for herbal medecine.

Since English is not my mothertongue, (and even if it were, I don't think every English native speaker knows all the herbs mentioned in the book) I find it great that Tom Bisio gives the Chinese AND the Latin name for every plant.

The recipes are presented in a clever way : first, a list of all the ingredients, and then the preparation, so that you don't get stuck in the middle thinking "sh*t, I don't have this one!".

Many examples and personal stories are here to illustrate how well each recipe works, however, I prefer to test on myself. The thing is that I couldn't test all injuries by myself (luckily!), but reading here and there on the net, on martial arts forums and e-shops, I came to realize that some of the recipes are often mentioned and very similar (I'm thinking of dit da jow for instance).

A good book to have if you run a dojo, or just if you practice martial arts. Good thing to have too, if you try to avoid taking chemical painkillers and cleanse your body (I found mention of the book on a Calory Restriction forum).

After I sprained my ankle, the same day my supervisor (acupuncture student) and my classmates needled my swollen and painful ankle. After the treatment, the swelling and pain gone down almost 50%. It was amazing! Then I purchased this book! This self help book was very useful. The points that were suggested to treat the injuries were the same points that were used on me; and I also used the ancient Chinese Kung Fu liniment called "Dit Da Jow" to massage the sprained area. No need to take pain killers but I did take one ibuprofen as suggested by my supervisor!

This book is a great reference book for many injuries!

This was recommended to me by a friend of the family who is an acupuncturist. She knew that I was considering entering the field and outright demanded I buy this book ASAP. The book speaks to me in particular because of the author puts chinese medicine in the context of his experiences as a martial arts instructor/practitioner. I consider myself a martial arts nerd and this really spoke to me and really gave me some interesting ideas of how to deal with wounds sustained while training.

The content is presented simply, which is great because I am not a practicing acupuncturist. However, even though the book comes off directed at the layman, my acupuncturist friend who recommended the book considers it one of her favorites. I also appreciated how the book helps explain differences between eastern/western ideas of medicine and doesn't do so in a condescending manner.

The book is more than just acupuncture, it also includes dietary advice, mobility exercises, strength exercises and has a fair bit of history on the subject of traditional chinese medicine.

Exercises and acupuncture points in the book are aided by simple, but effective, illustrations. Would recommend this to anybody who is a martial artist and definitely would recommend it to anybody who wants to learn something about chinese medicine.

I was quite content of the application-oriented nature of this book. The book offers an overview of the methods of traditional Chinese medicine applicable to the treatment of several types of sports injuries, as well as some Qigong exercises. Print form is probably recommendable, as the book often refers to its other chapters. In my opinion, this makes reading the Kindle version slightly clumsy. Taking notes helps, though.

There is a vast amount of information in this book. I bought this book because I have a knee injury from over 40 years ago. Although taiji has been able to stablize the knee somewhat due to fixing some posture issues, my knee continues to bother me. I saw the "tendon lotion" herbal recipe as well as the "trauma liniment" and thought it would be an interesting experiment on myself. When I tried to order the recipes from the referenced herbal companies, I found out I needed to be a "licenced practitioner" to order the herbs!

Fortunately through a friend, I contacted a TCM practitioner who would order the recipes for me. He knew of Tom Bisio by reputation,

I've been using tendon lotion the last 6 weeks. I still feel the storm fronts when they approach, but at a much lower level of pain (more of an annoyance now). I would like to eventually be able to take long brisk walks with my wife without pain.

I hope to update this review next spring and report on my progress.

This book is full of priceless original information. I am so impressed at the vast knowledge and research done by the author. If you're an athlete, martial artist, health practitioner or a person who has a body you will get something from reading this.
