Présentation de l'éditeur

Emily lives only a few miles from Gettysburg, site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War.

Not long afterwards, a wounded Confederate soldier shows up at her farm, asking for food and shelter. She hides him
in the treehouse she played in as a child.

But Charles is more than what he claims to be. He spies for the Union, but cannot reveal the truth to his newfound friend
because he is sworn to secrecy. He must find a way to get to Washington, D.C., even though he is injured.

Emily and her family could be severely punished if found to be harboring a Confederate soldier. Charles must decide what is
more important: duty or love.

Emily is shocked when a wounded Confederate soldier approaches her at her home and begs her to help him. He has been shot in the leg with an infection setting in, he is starving, and what's more he admits to having killed a fellow soldier and is now on the run. Emily knows that harboring any deserter, especially a Confederate, could mean prison or even death for her an her family if she is caught. But she can't help but feel compassion for the man, so she hides him in her childhood treehouse. She helps heal his wound and provides him with food and water.

Before we know it, Emily and Charles are in love. Emily doesn't think they can have a future together, seeing as Charles is a Confederate. But what Emily does not know is that Charles is a Union spy, working for Lincoln. Will Charles tell her the truth? And will he be able to escape from the soldiers hunting him down?

This book was a great idea, but way, way too short. The romance between Emily and Charles wasn't developed at all. One day, they were in love for no apparent reason. This book could have been so much better if it was simply expanded upon.

Definitely not worth $2.99.

Trent does a great job of showing the quick pacing of wartime love in this story. Since Charles is a fugitive, and Emily is keeping secrets of her own, everything they do has to be about being quick. Trent also gives great details and shows the close nature of the conflict by setting her story in Maryland, a place well known for coming down on both sides of the conflict. If you are looking for a fast-paced, expressive, detailed wartime romance, then this book does a great job. Enjoy!

"I received a copy of this book for an honest review."

Emily lived close to Gettysburg during the war. When a Confederate solider shows up wounded and asks for temporary food and shelter Emily must decide to sneak and help him or turn him away. She ultimately decides to hide him in her childhood tree house where they fall in love. The solider carries secrets he must keep from Emily. Is all fair in love and war?

I liked the foundation of this story. The main storyline itself was believable. It also had a very romantic basis being that the couple had so much time alone to get to know each other while in the tree house. I was looking for this to be a time for them to know each other more. The time they had alone could have provided more details on their past, families and emotions.

The relationships of the other supporting characters were not explained before those characters were introduced in the story leaving me curious about who they really were and if they were needed. Introducing the supporting characters earlier in the story would have created the need for them. Some things seemed almost left unexplained or up to interpretation. In some cases it seemed to jump from one thing to the other with no bridge.

Even as a novella or short story it seemed to be lacking detail and conclusion. And the vocabulary seemed elementary.I wish I had received more out of the characters.

“I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review”.

Helping a wounded Confederate soldier, hiding him in the tree house, and falling in love. A good idea for a story. The characters just needed to be developed more. Background information, family ideals and relationships, and why does she "give everything" after such a short time? If this were headed to be an erotic novel, fine. I thought this was to be a war time romance. Not so much romance as lust.

It was a cute story, just not believable for the time period.

The book is too short for the quick romance, or the romance is too quick. There were a few editing issues. I really thought I'd like this one, but I didn't care for the sex and think this book would have made a better sweet romance due to the length and quick romance. There is also a lot of telling. Could be written with more of an active voice. It has the potential to be a good story if it were longer, leave out the sex, make it a sweet romance, and fix the few editing issues. Also use active, not passive voice and show don't tell.
