Présentation de l'éditeur

Two hours to get away, 22 more to survive.

The sun released its grip on the mountains in the east as they started running. Hunted for their lives, Ingrid and Kasper Hansen can think of only one thing: if they can get through the next 24 hours, they'll see their children again.

The question they should be asking is: why?

Security consultant and private investigator Michael Sander is tasked with the investigation of a video that seems to show two people being hunted to their deaths. His job is to find out who they are, and why they were murdered. But this isn't just another case, and these deaths are only one piece of the puzzle.

This time Michael is investigating the darkest reaches of humanity, uncovering crimes that reach further than he ever imagined.

Steffen Jacobsen's "Trophy," translated from the Danish by Charlotte Barslund, is a work of fiction that keep us guessing until the final page. The premise is chilling: On March 25, 2011, a group of men hunt down a vacationing couple for sport in northern Norway. Unsurprisingly, the killers do not want their murderous activities to come to light. Elizabeth Caspersen-Behncke, a successful barrister who expects to inherit a fortune from her late father, has a personal reason for hiring security consultant Michael Sander. She wants him to track down the men responsible for organizing the aforementioned sadistic expedition. Sander accepts the job—it pays very well--but he may come to regret his decision.

Sander, who has a background in the military and law enforcement, is overconfident about his ability to handle this case. With a loving wife and two small children at home, he has a great deal to lose if his adversaries outwit him. As it turns out, there is another individual, Superintendent Lene Jensen of the Danish police, who is also pursuing this investigation. She is tough, determined, and intelligent but, against standard protocol, generally works alone. Ultimately, Michael and Lene team up to conduct a hunt of their own, but will they end up being the predators or the prey?

Jacobsen is a competent writer who nicely depicts the fjords, rivers, and wild terrain that serve a backdrop for some of the more horrifying action scenes. The violence is off the charts, since most of the villains are unencumbered by pity or morality. This is a briskly paced and gripping story, with a spirited hero and heroine, and a final surprise that demonstrates just how depraved human beings can be. It is too bad that the implausible plot requires such an enormous suspension of disbelief. For example, one would expect that people who are tortured by psychotic assailants would need some time to bounce back from their injuries. Still, this imaginative study of good vs. evil should appeal to fans of edgy, suspenseful, and intense thrillers.

**Actual Rating 4.5 stars**

This was a corker of a thriller, with a character (Michael) I immediately fell in love with, an extremely intriguing and horrific premise turning into a wonderfully twisty turny tale to boot.

The opening packs a heck of a punch and throws you straight into proceedings with barely time to draw breath. Enter Michael Sanders, hired by a rich and influential woman to investigate a mysterious video and from there things only get more and more exciting. As he teems up with Superintendant Lene Jensen to track down some truly evil bad guys, the whole thing is utterly addictive, brilliantly written and just a little bit insane. Fantastic.

Michael and Lene are both extremely intriguing characters who I feel we have only scratched the surface of here. They, ( and their completely platonic relationship which makes a change ) are very compelling and the situation they find themselves in is both unreal and terribly dangerous. Thrown together by circumstance, despite the thriller aspect of the story, they ground it and make it all so much more engaging overall. A character driven spine chiller of the highest order.

The story flows along at a hectic pace, keeping you turning those pages, a range of eclectic supporting characters are thrown into the mix and the whole thing has an almost guilty pleasure feel to it – Steffen Jacobsen paints a picture of villainy with a deft hand and whilst it is utterly horrifying you still cannot look away.

Overall a most terrific read – can we hope that this is the start of a series? I would very much hope so…

5.0 étoiles sur 5 I really enjoyed this Norther European based thriller 8 juillet 2017

I really enjoyed this Norther European based thriller. The premise was bizarre and enthralling, something I had not come across. I was captivated after the first ten pages. A man has been killed in a strange and cruel fashion. Enter a private investigator hired by a powerful woman. The P.I. is asked to examine and investigate the contents of a video that the client received. Our hero enlists the help of the local police in what turns out to be a truly wild, exasperating, crazy, and slightly insane story.
This is an absorbing thriller. The story moves along rapidly with surprises and detours along the way. The writer conveys a picture of evil that resonates and reminds us that evil does exist and can flourish given the right circumstances.

The successful commercial lawyer Elizabeth Caspersen found a DVD in the safe of her deseaced father. The DVD shows a joung man hunted and shot. Whereupon she engaged Michael Sanders; a private investigator. Sanders should check the DVDs authenticity. She also fears, that her father is one of the men on the film.

Soon Michael Sanders discovers during his investigations, that his opponents are very influential. They`re running the onlineportal "The running man Casino" on which a special bonus is promised: " The hunt of humans".

Trophy is a well thought out thriller, which puts the hunt, the addiction to please, power, money and family interrelations in the focus.
