Stephan Nance is an amazingly talented new artist who just released his first full-length album, A Troubled Piece of Fruit.

The evocative imagery and powerful percussiveness of "Paid by Weight", the torrential piano melodies of "Resurrection", and the epic and energetic trilingual journey that is "Japanese Garden" provide a wonderful glimpse of Stephan's talent, but they are just part of what could be one of the best albums of the year. There is such a diverse selection on this album that you are certain to find something you'll love, whether it's the warm and soothing "Spring", the upbeat and innuendo-filled "Firecracker", a descent into madness with "Fall", or the empowering "Song for Losers", which has already gained over 95,000 views in its original YouTube format.

Stephan describes his music as "awkwardly charming vegan straight-edge queer alternative piano folk rock", but labels cannot even begin to capture the depth of his multi-layered and thought-provoking lyrics, which grow on you with each listen and will be firmly rooted in your head and heart before you've even realized the positive ways in which they will enrich your life.

Stephan and his band give an awesome live performance, and the ones that are completely powered by bicycle are an interactive and environmentally friendly blast of an experience. His upcoming performances are posted on his web site. If you ever get the chance to meet him, you will also find Stephan to be one of the kindest, most compassionate, and genuine individuals you could ever get to know.

This album is the brilliant work of an incredible musician, and I believe that this is only the beginning for him. Please check out A Troubled Piece of Fruit in its entirety and get to know Stephan Nance. You will find him unforgettable.

HASH(0x90efca14) étoiles sur 5 Emotional, intelligent, bursting with character 8 août 2012

Stephan Nance's debut full-length album, A Troubled Piece of Fruit, is an absolute masterpiece. If you enjoy clever and catchy classic-pop-sounding tunes, give any of the songs on this CD a listen. You'll love them.

Stephan's unique ability to capture such a wide gamut of emotions through his music is clear. No matter the song, Stephan's genuine, intelligent lyrics show an amazing depth of compassion. From the starry-eyed musings of "Song for Losers" to the bitter frustration of "Fall", the tracks on the CD are truly a swift and moving tour de force of living experience.

If you can, I'd suggest choosing for a physical CD over just buying the downloadable tracks. The album art is quirky and full of character, like the songs. The CD case is made of some eco-friendly pulp material and has an interesting tactile feel.

The whole package just looks and sounds fantastic. Buy it and listen to it repeatedly. I can almost guarantee you'll experience a dozen emotions in the first five minutes alone.

HASH(0x90efc99c) étoiles sur 5 A debut review, 'cause I just love this debut album 11 août 2012
Par Rexyboy - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
A Troubled Piece of Fruit. The debut album of Stephan Nance who hails from Eugene,Oregon. This young singer songwriter specializes in awkwardly charming vegan, straight edge, queer, alternative piano folk rock. His description, not mine, but don't let that put you off. He is close to 100,000 hits on You Tube, with his self styled youth anthem,"Song for Losers." This guy is well worth a listen! His voice is not the voice of a generation or the majority, but his upbeat quirky piano pop deals in fun,the environment and optimism. The album opens with a friendly,"I am not a stranger here",followed by "Cuddlefish," which is a caring perspective from the outside. The music then changes from gentle soothing "Spring",to the quirky "Firecracker," a song of erratic love, before moving on to the emotional turmoil of,"Fall".
Ending abruptly through shifting devotion is,"The song I didn't write". The songs are not all about loves shortcomings. There is "Resurrection," an anthem to Oregon's climate and "Immunodeficiency."It's cancer! A Rooster in a Booster occupies a "One way sea". More instruments are added to the mix on three tracks."Made in Vermont" sounds smooth and silky but alas,is the shortest track. My favourite is "Paid by weight",an environmental message stressing how you take and you take. "Japanese Garden" hoping for simple one day soon,is not quite so simple, being sung in English,French and Russian. Concluding is the fun "Song for Losers",which packs a healthy aspect that resounds with difficulties. But,Stephan will win you a bear or tell you a joke - if you let him. This debut album should not be ignored.I have never done a review before, but this one made me,'cause I just love it!

HASH(0x8f8bc3f0) étoiles sur 5 Beautiful studio versions! 9 août 2012
Par Sunshine - Publié sur Amazon.com
I've been a fan of Stephan Nance's work since happening upon his youtube channel... the lyrics are witty, the piano parts catchy, not to mention he's just simply cute. I'm a veggie-loving, bicycle-riding, sober, gay thingamabob living in rural America and it's nice to hear music from somebody that shares some of the same viewpoints. Need to make a mix cd for a sweetie? Stephan Nance songs are there. Need a pick me up after going to a party and not really fitting in because everybody else was too drunk to really talk to? Stephan Nance's Song for Losers is for you. He even has a song on this CD dedicated to my home state and my favorite food.

If I were to create a Stephan Nance music clone, I think I would combine parts of Elton John with some of The Hidden Cameras, and maybe mix in a bit of They Might Be Giants. In fact, I think I'm going to make this mix right now. Come on. You know you want to try it.
