Cassie Forrest isn't surprised to learn that the day she’s decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. After all, she’s been on a self-imposed losing streak since her survivalist parents died: she’s stopped painting, broken off her engagement to Adrian and dated a real jerk. Rectifying her mistakes has to wait, however, because Cassie and her friends have just enough time to escape Brooklyn for her parents’ cabin before Bornavirus LX turns them into zombies, too.

This is difficult enough, but Cassie’s tag along ex-boyfriend and her friend’s bratty sister have a knack for making everything, even the apocalypse, more unpleasant. When the two attract a threat as deadly as the undead to their safe haven, Cassie’s forced to see how far she’ll go to protect those she loves. And it’s a lot farther than she’d anticipated. This, coupled with Adrian’s distant voice on Safe Zone Radio and, of course, the living dead, threaten to put Cassie right back into the funk she just dragged herself out of.

Survival’s great and all, especially when you have leather armor, good friends and home-brewed beer, but there’s something Cassie must do besides survive: tell Adrian she still loves him. And to do that, Cassie has to find faith that she’s stronger than she thinks, she’s still a crack shot and true love never dies.

Biographie de l'auteur

My first novel, UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD, is a mixture of post-apocalyptic, zombie, women's and suspense fiction. I'm currently working on the sequel, AND AFTER. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, I now live in Oregon with my family and, in my opinion, not nearly enough supplies for the zombie apocalypse. But I'm working on it.

I'll be honest. I got this book because it was free, about zombies, and of a decent length. While I'm confessing, I was a little afraid it was going to turn out to be a tad "girlie" for my tastes. (Yeah, I'm a girl--or the remains of one anyway--but I don't generally care for romances or what could be considered Chick Lit.)

But I digress. The point is that I'm glad I gave it a try. This is a good story. Yeah, there's some romance but it's not the main focus and there's plenty of good ol' zombie action--and it's the old time Romero-style zombies, which is only right and proper. I liked it enough that when I was about 90% done, I checked Amazon and was disappointed to find out this was her first book because I was really hoping to find a sequel.

There are several characters, all well-written and they come across as real people. Even the less likeable ones come across as real people, nicely fleshed out (so to speak). No one is too perfect and their reactions to situations and each other struck me as plausible. I especially liked the relationship between Cassie and Nel, as well as the character of John.

The action scenes are good and clearly written. In a lot of books in this genre, sometimes I have a bit of trouble actually picturing the scene I'm reading. I had no such trouble with this book. Her descriptions of action, characters, and settings are very well done.

As with most books, espeicially first efforts, there are a few flaws but they didn't really detract from the overall story. I don't like to do spoilers so I'll keep it general. One of these is that I saw one aspect, relating to the main character, of how the book would end coming way back from nearly the very beginning of the book. It didn't ruin anything and I wouldn't even call it tiresome. I just found it a little obvious.

Another is that (How to phrase this without giving things away?) the group seems to have an awful lot of luck following even the most dire circumstances. Then again, I came to like all the characters so much that, while I didn't find it overly realistic at times, I couldn't really begrudge it much.

I would definitely recommend this book for you zombie fans. I liked it a lot and look forward to seeing more from this author.

Incredible. I rarely write reviews...but I had to, if only to thank the author for the gift that this book was to me. I hope she reads this. I started this book one long sunny afternoon outside, where the pacing, details, and characters drew me in, and I finished it that evening inside, sobbing like I haven't in...I can't remember the last time.

If you are looking for a great, fast-paced read and are a fan of truly believable post-apocalyptic books that manage to place incredibly believable characters in convincingly unbelievable circumstances, then this book will more than deliver for you.

If you also appreciate a writer's ability to address and comment on the human experience in a way that is completely believable, never condescending or trite, and profoundly and shatteringly beautiful, then you can also thank the author after you've read this book.

Mrs. Fleming: this book came to me at a time when my heart was broken and I felt utterly alone in this world. Reading it was a catharsis for me, and has left me aching and hopeful for something more, something real, something deep and profound and full of grace and forgiveness, redemption and mercy, love and family of all types...and has managed at the same time to show the way there. You made me think about what life is really about, about the hard work that goes into shaping it, and about the way I want to pass that on. I loved these characters, the richness of their experiences, the believability of their emotions, and the impact it made on me. Thank you for the hard work that you did to share it all with me. Thank you for the gift of this book...and please...give us all more.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Zombies -- well written with real characters - nice change! 4 août 2013

Totally enjoyable read! I enjoy the zombie/apocalyptic genre in general and this was a step, no a leap, above most zombie books. Perfect for people that want fully developed characters and a real backstory and not just zombie hunting. Don't get me wrong, there are weapons and attacks, but there's so much more.

Cassie, our heroine, has a great group of friends, a soon to be ex boyfriend, and a nice set of survival skills. She's messed up a beautiful past relationship and those thoughts torment her. She and her friends escape NY city right after the zombie virus hits. At least one important person is left behind :(

Can't really say more without giving away parts of the story!

This is remarkably well written, the characters aren't cardboard cutouts but fully human in their qualities both good and bad. You desperately want them to make it--I was fully invested in the characters and yup, cried a few times.

A satisfying ending, but definitely room for a sequel. There are still many questions and I really want to know about some of those people and where they are now and will they be together again!

I'd love to return to this world and look forward to buying books from this author!(

I really like the apocalyptic type books. And even though most involve some zombie type or infection, I love to hear the authors different ideas. There are a few that fall in the "same-ole" story line but many out there are so worth hearing! This is one that I found more on the romantic/horror side. I liked the characters and their humor. I liked the journey that had fear, love, loss, friendships and even the discord.
These books are always fun when you can be in the mind of the main character! Very well written.
Main character is a female, who was raised by a father who was a Prepper. So she and a group of friends know to get to her parents place, to wait out this virus. Of course in this group is a spoiled sister of her best friend, and a boyfriend that she had hoped to break up with prior to things falling apart!
I read some of the 1 and 2 star reviews, and I get why some of them chose what they did. I will say this is more on a chick flick level, but I give 4 because I was entertained, I wanted to see how it ended, and I am interested in getting the next book!
To each their own! I had fun with it!

What a pleasant surprise! "Until the End of the World" is a story about love, friendship, hope, survival and zombies. Cassie Forrest grew up on a farm in up state New York, her father and mother were preppers and spent much of their time teaching Cassie and her brother Eric what they needed to learn in order to survive the end of the world - this included stockpiling weapons, ammo and supplies. Cassie eventually gives it all up and moves to NYC after her parents are suddenly killed in a freak auto accident.

It's now two years later when the virus is borne and normal people become flesh eating monsters. It was a Friday, Cassie, her close friends and work associates were looking forward to their weekly get together at the local bar to kick off the weekend. Fortunately, they are dismissed early from work just as the virus gets out of hand in the city. As a group, they all decide to join Cassie in her quest to get back to the farm where there are ample supplies for all of them to hold up until this blows over. The government is telling everyone that it will all be resolved within a couple of weeks. Their escape from NYC is just in time!

Their journey is not easy as the group is initially targeted by police and military soldiers for containment and relocation to "safe zones". As those forces diminish, the group encounters hungry zombies and other humans who try to take their supplies and enslave the women. Once reaching the farm, they try to begin life anew in hopes that this infection ends soon and people will rebuild. It doesn't take long for that dream to come to an end.

I had total buy-in with each of the characters, John being my favorite as we are close in age and both Vietnam vets. Want some hints on how to prepare for the end of the world? This fine novel offers clues on how to survive - not only in body, but also in mind. There is humor and celebrating moments throughout the story to go along with those duels with death. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and quickly downloaded the novella and books 2 and 3 to complete this series. Looking forward to renewing my kinship with this group!

Well done Sarah Lyons Fleming! I compliment you for writing a wonderful story with a cast of likable characters. To be a writer, one must be dedicated, willing to sacrifice and have the full support of family to undertake a project like this. Kudos to you and your family!
