HASH(0x94667b40) étoiles sur 5 Amazing read! 10 juillet 2012

This book picked up where Vampire in Denial ended, and notched it up a dozen steps. In the last book, Tessa started out worrying that she didn't fit in anywhere. In this book, she's worried that she and her friends will stay alive. And even more. They've discovered something evil going on. Something that will shake up the vamp and human worlds. Something that's too big for them. But when Tessa calls in reinforcements, things get even weirder.

I'm almost afraid to say anything that will give away the plot. So I'll just say that the end was really satisfying... and then it left me gasping. This entire story has twists and turns that stopped my breath and kept me clicking to the next page. I didn't want to stop reading. I love it too that we get to see into Cody and Jared's minds. Both of them are great, but I'm in the Cody camp. I'm super eager for the next book!

Just when we think Tessa is safe and there will be a resolution to the Tessa/Cody/Jared triangle, we're blindsided by more problems for these characters. Ms. Mayer leaves us with the ultimate cliffhanger so that we are all anxiously awaiting the next book to find out what happens!

I am a high school teacher and originally grabbed the first book in the series to see if it would appeal to some of my students. However, I was quickly hooked! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these books. They have romance, action, mystery...something for everyone.

HASH(0x94667fcc) étoiles sur 5 A Reading the Paranormal Review 20 décembre 2012

I'm beginning to wonder if Dale Mayer isn't some evil genius who skulks around in her mountain top fortress thinking up ways to place her characters in situations that leave her readers wide-eyed and frantic to know what happens next. She probably steeples her fingers while cackling maniacally as she plots.

Book 2 picks up directly from where book 1 left off. Tessa's in danger, her friends and family are frantically searching for her and the bad guys are poised to do more very bad things. As if the whole blood farm thing wasn't enough, right? Alas, these bad guys are nasty, nasty individuals who have no regard for either human or vampire life.

I do love that Tessa is coming into her own so nicely. Her throwback genes have made her an outcast and yet she's not willing to fade away into the background or hide from what needs to be done. She calls the Elders on their decisions and she pushes them to do the right thing - not just the actions that will help their race, but the morally right things that will help all the people taken and used for their blood.

Tessa spends a good chunk of this book separated from her family and friends. While I understand why this happened, the hopeless romantic in me wanted her to get back to them as soon as possible so that we could see more confused, longing glances between her and Cody. What? I want more kissing. There's nothing wrong with that.

Overall, this was a dark, sometimes bloody look at how trying times can help people -or vampires - rise to the occasion and shine. Tessa's story is far from over (gives that ending the side eye) and I will wait patiently to see how she gets out of her newest predicament.

HASH(0x9466b3b4) étoiles sur 5 Could be better 14 juillet 2013

Okay, overall, it was a good read. I like the story line - I feel it could stand to be more developed.
Unfortunately, I bought this on my kindle (reading app) and wish I could get a refund. The editing needed a LOT of work. There were so many typos I had to figure things out for myself. And so many repeat lines - the same sentences over and over again.
Very poorly done - it felt like the whole story was rushed, as though the author had a deadline to meet or just wasn't that into the story by the end of it. And the conflicting emotions between the parents/children (vampire families) were too back-and-forth and easily smoothed over.
I want to get the 3rd in the series just to see how it plays out but I'm going to have to wait - I don't want to waste another $5. :( I really hate leaving bad reviews but I do it in the hopes the author will note the mistakes and go back for another rewrite, consider the issues and make improvements.

Now for the good. :) It was an easy read which I accomplished in less than two hours (okay, maybe not so good as I want a story with some depth and meat). I think that the flow went pretty well with only a few issues. The character development needs some work but the characters are likeable. ***spoilers*** I appreciate that the author has set up a "cliffhanger" of sorts and can't wait to read what happens with the missing vampire, the mom, and the "love triangle" between the main character and her 2 "love" interests. To be honest, I'm rooting for Cody. I realize that the vampire/human relationship thing is big in YA paranormal, especially since Twilight...but I'm still rooting for the vampire/vampire connection. Very cool. And I really feel for Cody - to see something that sweet and innocent (?) develop into something more - and the fact that Cody had his eyes suddenly opened like that and Tessa's becoming more and more aware of HIM, feeling safe and comforted and unsettled all at the same time...I'm just really crossing my fingers for Cody.
I have a feeling that Jared's vampire genetics will come back into play in book 3, but that's enough for the spoilers.

Again, a pretty decent read. I'm glad I read book 1 last night/this morning and was able to immediately follow up with book 2. Now just waiting for book 3 to be more financially feasible, since I'm reluctant to shell out any more on a book I'm just not sure about.
HASH(0x9466b360) étoiles sur 5 Ms. Mayer has a wicked imagination and I enjoy taking the journeys she provides 15 mai 2015

The plot thickens and we are no closer to who is behind the blood farms. Tessa is becoming stronger and the Elder family members do not know what to think about that. She is becoming a force to be reckoned with and I can see she is a going to be a major element in finding the bad guys. This story was a little bit slower then the first but I think it was presented this way to help see how far reaching this atrocity had gone. It also presented some twists that the others were not ready to face and also some realizations. The bad blood between the humans and vampires has been brought back to the surface and they will have to work together if they are going to survive. It is going to come down to the old against the young making the battles even more difficult. Ms. Mayer has a wicked imagination and I enjoy taking the journeys she provides with her books. She is however very mean, as this one also has a major cliffhanger that is sure to make you say a few bad words when you reach the last page.
