Présentation de l'éditeur

The lowly earthworm is an often disregarded creature, seen by others as nothing but dirt swellers that feed on refuse. But these dirt-dwellers play a very important ecological role - they prevent the world from becoming overrun with organic waste. Without worms hastening the decomposition process of organic refuse, every landfill will be rapidly filled up and contaminate surrounding lands and waterways. Also, without worms, organic waste will decompose very slowly and produce harmful greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change.

The book Vermiculture and Vermicomposting discusses the importance of worms in turning organic waste into high quality compost thus reducing the impact of household refuse in the environment and their importance in improving land. It also discusses what vermiculture is and how it is different from and related to vermicomposting; it provides information on what worm species are commonly used in both; what systems are used in the rearing of and composting with worms; how to care for worms and offer some important things to consider if delving into vermicomposting. This book is recommended for gardeners, farmers and anyone who is interested in learning a new way to supplement their income.

This book has a wealth of information for both the beginning vermicomposter and the more experienced user. From set up to worm choices, it is very informative. And the pictures are excellent.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wishes to get into worm composting.

I have engaged in home based vermicomposting for many years on a strictly amateur basis. This small book was dense in reference information. I discovered some information I had not known, and other information that was helpful to solve a few reoccurring problems. But, this is not a deep covering of the topic. As I read this, I had the feeling I was reading a high school science paper. Many of the topics are more appropriate for understanding commercial scale vermicomposting and vermiculture. I think you could get started on a home based system with this book, because it did also describe the systems I use.

This depth was just what I needed and wanted for the price.

I liked this book, and recommend it to any one with an interest in the subject matter. I am not an expert in the subject, so I don't feel qualified to pass judgement on the detailed content, other than to say, it sounded authentic to me and completely answered the questions in my mind that motivated my purchase of this item. If I felt better qualified to pass judgement on this content, I'd likely give it a 5-star rating.

I have worms in a small bin just to add to my pots. I wanted to see what was involved in raising them on a large bases. This was a well written and easy to understand book that provided me with much good information. If you are interested in worms this will prove to be helpful.

Starting using worms for composting its unbelievable how beautiful the soil is and how fast the worms grow and do their job. No to mention how much fun it is. I don't have anything fancy just a plastic box with holes, try it you'll love it and the book.
