Description du produit

Présentation de l'éditeur

The Very, Very Rich provides revealing insights into the intriguing world of big money, recounting the spectacular success stories of 15 men who made it to the very, very top.
In 1972, Max Gunther invited readers to take a journey with him through a gallery of America's most prominent millionaires. The inhabitants framed here are by no means merely ordinary millionaires though, as the minimum qualifying standard to be considered for inclusion is ownership of assets valued at $100 million or more (the equivalent of $500 million today).
This classic is now nearly 40 years old but its value endures, since the key steps on the route to wealth do not change with time. These secrets can be learned from, adapted and applied by anyone today.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Another excellent book by Max Gunther that is finally being re-issued 18 mai 2011

Harriman House is doing an excellent job re-issuing all Max Gunther's books. Originally published in 1972, the book tells the story of 15 North-American multimillionaries of the time. The publisher printed a table at the first page listing the fortunes portrayed in the book and the amount corrected by inflation. This way, when the author says that John Doe has 100 million dollars, you know that this would be equal to 522 millions today. This is the level of the "poorest" guy portrayed in the book!

The stories are fantastic, and Gunther is an excellent storyteller, always trying to focus on what the person did differently from the "average guy." The nice thing about this book is that it is based on interviews the author conducted with the portrayed people. For the people he didn't interview in person, he decided to publish interviews done by other people that had this opportunity. Therefore, a few chapters are written by other journalists.

This is an excellent pick if you like to read sucess stories.

Good book explaining how some of the rich in the 30s to 60s got their riches. You won't find those billionaires like the likes of Bill Gate, Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffett, here. The content is outdated by now as non of the famous rich and famous today or a decade earlier mentioned.

This book was OK. I liked the stories, but felt that the author colored the stories a little bit too much with his own opinion of the rich, instead of just presenting the facts. If you look beyond that however, there are some good tips.

Quite an interesting book I read about 20+ years back - rereading it was nostalgic. Talks about famous personalities and how they got rich and famous. You should read this book because it is biographical in nature and does talk about hard work, luck, etc., playing their respective roles in making one very very rich ($100 Million plus - according to those times!).
