Présentation de l'éditeur

Forgetting the night and coming into the daylight isn’t as easy as first thought…

Canna Medici is free. Her tyrant husband, Giuseppe Savelli, is dead and can’t hurt her anymore. Or so she thought. Now that the recovering drug-addict is the head of Caraceni Industries and heiress to Giuseppe’s billions, Canna finds that the riches are more dangerous than ever. Giorgio Savelli, the charismatic but volatile nephew of the deceased family patriarch, wants the Caraceni fortune, and Canna needs to decide how to eliminate Giorgio and be the sole heir of the dirty money.

Operatic music group Virtuosi are in the throes of stardom; world tours, new albums and legions of fans beckon. All baritone Claudio Ramos Ibáñez wants is to be with his lover, Canna, whose business dealings take her to Milan far more often than he likes. The Virtuosi group adapt to the new relationship between Canna and Claudio, but tenor Dane Porter isn’t sure of how he feels about Canna. Dane finds himself in a situation where he can destroy Canna and Claudio’s already strained ‘happily ever after’, and Virtuosi risk a descent into jealousy and madness.

When a brutal murder occurs, and Virtuosi get caught up in the scandal, Canna begins to question if she can have a future with Claudio. As the bodies of enemies and loved ones begin to pile up, the dark desires of drugs and self-mutilation dominate Canna’s mind. The truth won’t set anyone free, and Canna’s life is again under threat, this time from her most dangerous adversary – herself.

Biographie de l'auteur

CAROLINE ANGUS BAKER is a New Zealand author. A trained sailmaker, Caroline has gone from long hours behind sewing machines, to competing in national sailing competitions, to attending international sailing regattas. She has cycled down Hawaiian volcanoes, been served dinner by billionaires, bumped into supermodels and movie stars, fumbled to find the right words on Italian live television, walked the red carpet at fashion events, fought off Moroccan muggers, soaked up a Norwegian Christmas, watched whales in Canada, slept on the floor in Dubai, played in the German snow, partied on the Great Barrier Reef, got lost in London, passed out in Thailand and dodged bushfires in Australia. A Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Italian culture and years of keeping a diary of life in Spain later, Caroline returned to New Zealand, and began to write all she had seen and heard. After a Diploma in Business, and thousands of hours studying the Spanish civil war, Spanish and bullfighting history, it became Caroline's time to turn to fiction. From growing up humble in small town New Zealand to travelling the world, she now lives in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband and four young sons. Another adventure could be just around the corner.

After reading "Night Wants To Forget", I was eager to read the sequel; the characters stayed with me long after I finished the book. Finally, "Violent Daylight" has arrived. It picks up almost right after the end of NWTF where Canna's happily ever after is of course, fraught with difficulty.

Canna takes over her late husband's business and continues her relationship with Claudio. But the Caraceni family can't be trusted. She still has to mend her relationship with the Virtousi and Dane Porter isn't thrilled with his ex girlfriend dating his former best friend.

Canna is such an interesting figure, she is a wholly fleshed out, damaged, frustrating person that you can't stop rooting for. In my experience, there are not a lot of fictional female characters that are allowed to be so flawed yet sympathetic at the same time.

If you haven't read the first book, that is OK, there is enough background detail that this one stands on its own. "Violent Daylight" is an emotional roller coaster that will make your jaw drop and keep you turning the page.

Canna is one of those women that you love to hate, or rather, hate to love. She is brash, ruthless, mischievous, caring, cunning and maybe a little on the mad side. She is the eye of the storm, and you dare not cross her. Far different from any female lead I have ever read about, Canna steals the show with her electricity, but at the same time she holds those she loves very close. For example, she has godchildren she sponsors, a secretary she dotes on, and then there is Claudio. Despite her rocky exterior, girl has depth.

I didn't know this was a sequel until I saw some of the other reviews, so I can affirm you can read it as a stand alone, but now I HAVE to know the rest of the story!

The first book in this series, Night Wants to Forget, left me longing for more. The characters, with their rich and detailed personalities, hung with me. I found myself thinking about them after the story was over...wanting to know more. I absolutely could not wait for Violent Daylight (the sequel) to release. What I like about this story-line is that it isn't your typical, come-with-ease happy ending. Much like real life, there is a struggle and certain "darkness" that comes with getting your "happily ever after." Canna constantly struggles with daily issues to get what she wants, while this is more so than my daily life struggles, that makes this story so much easier to relate to. There is corruption and deceit, danger and grit in Canna's story and a certain rush of endorphins as she conquers each little battle. This sequel was well worth my wait, and I wasn't let down!

Canna is bi-polar. She and I are antipolar; we are extreme opposites. Yet I love Canna. Nothing in life is set in stone with Canna. She always keeps you guessing: turning each page could bring laughter, crying, cringing, gasping or anger. You never know what to expect when you turn that page, but you will keep turning and learning more about her, her friends and enemies. It's not a love story, it's life story. I am always kind of sorry to reach the end...have to wait to find out what Canna gets into next :) This is sequel to "Night Wants To Forget" My 5 Star review is available. I highly recommend this book and the author, Caroline Angus Baker!!

I really loved the first book in this series but this was even better! The twists and turns of the intricate plot had me engrossed. I tend to read for the hour on the train to/from work and several times I really didn't want to put it down! Canna is back with Claudio and this time they are trying to make it work - despite the way his career and her involvement with the business her husband has left her is pulling them apart.
She is still fighting her addictions too but succeeds for a while. The final chapters involve an ocean boat race - and Claudio nearly loosing her again - I'm a sucker for sad bits like that and now I can't wait for the third book in the series! Well done Caroline
