4.0 étoiles sur 5 Sweet poetic read..... More than that only through adult guidance 11 décembre 2013

Visiting Feelings is very aesthetic and inviting. The illustrations are bright, gender and ethnic inclusive, which definitely will hold children's attention.
About the content: The story line itself does not contain much educational information about feelings or how to express them... It is rather to be used as a tool to elicit feelings. (In the back, there are tips for adults on how to use the book: These are very useful)
Being a hospital chaplain, focused on child bereavement, I bought the book hoping to find a tool to help children express difficult feelings. I read it with my 12-year son using the language of the book to ask him how he felt inside. I was glad to see him interacting (he is very introverted) even thought the book seemed below his age bracket. Yet, I doubt he would have gotten much out of the book on his own.. .If the book is going to be more than a poetic sweet read for children, the parent must be proactive, lead the conversation, ask inviting questions using the language of the book....
In summary: A potential tool for conversation... And useful for visiting feeling only if guided by a parent or an adult

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Every Family Should Have A Copy of This Book !!! 17 octobre 2013

This is a children's book for the ages! "Visiting Feelings" is magnificently illustrated and playfully written. It invites children to explore and welcome all of their feelings, without feeling threatened or judged. Lauren Rubenstein uses poetry, imagery and mesmerizing illustrations to help children "embrace" their feelings, rather than deny or resist them. It makes all feelings safe to have. My friend's child read it and remarked, "it just makes you feel good to read it. You kind of want to read it again and stare at the pictures."

Visiting Feelings is targeted to children, but it will resonate with everyone who reads it. I highly recommend it!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Best book I have found on tough feelings 25 juillet 2016

This book avoids labeling feelings or defining them as good or bad. Instead it helps children look at their tough feelings and feel them out and describe how they feel and how they make them feel. It has easy flowing rhythm and beautiful pictures. It has inspired several conversations with my 4 and 6 year old about different kinds of feelings. I sometimes read it to them when they are having a tough time and, even if they don't want to talk about their current experience, it does seem to calm them down. It's enough knowing that it's ok to have whatever feeling you are having.

Excellent. This really helps kids think about and feel into their emotions without judgement. I would advise reading it slowly with pauses so they can reflect. I am a therapist and might have them draw their emotion as the book goes through all the possible descriptors. It has a perfect balance of words and pictures and would be good for 1st - 7th graders I think with parental or professional support. For kids reading on their own maybe 3rd and 4th grade is good because the book doesn't seem to old or young and they have the capacity to understand the concept.

As an educator, a parent, a grandparent and a human being I heartily recommend this book -- like the great classics of children's literature, it comes in the guise of a book for kids, but its really a book for all of us who experience feelings and don't quite know what to do with them. Dr. Rubenstein's shows us the way to come to know and make friends with our feelings, rather than to judge or suppress them. If only we adults could have all learned that earlier in life, the world would have much more acceptance, compassion and love. The illustrations are beautiful, the wording poignant and true. I will be buying copies of this book to give away from now on, as well as keeping one treasured copy for myself.
