2.0 étoiles sur 5 Exercises are terrible and without solutions. Constantly back and forth 12 février 2014
Par Amazon Customer - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
Here's an example:

Open your project from Exercise 2.1, and create New Data and Details screens for your Engineer entity. Notice the controls that LightSwitch uses, and try changing some of your data items so that they use different controls. Run your application, and use your New Data screen to create a new record. After you save a record, notice how LightSwitch automatically opens the new record in your Details screen.

My details screen doesn't show and isn't available in list of screens to include. Haven't a clue why, because it hasn't been explained (or I misunderstood something, so now I'm totally stuck.

Chapter 7 is a joke. You're all over the place trying to find code, tables, etc. (this is true throughout the book) and has massive errors in code like this, which is supposed to be C# (curly braces/ End sub?)

partial void Engineer_Loaded( bool succeeded)
this.DisplayName = "Engineer Dashboard";
End Sub

4.0 étoiles sur 5 LightSwitch is... for people who like coding!!! 22 novembre 2013

This is an excelent book to introduce you (and more) in LightSwitch. But I must warning you about this software!! You should not think that LightSwitch is for non-programmers people. You must to be prepared (unless you make very simple aplications) to learn new tecnologies and write some code. If you (my case) have some programming skills, probable prefer write code your way... but I must speak about this book!!
This is a great book!

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Still In-depth and Thorough, but also Improved 10 août 2013
Par Amazon Customer - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
In this edition, Mr. Leung has built on the success of the previous book he had co-authored on Visual Studio LightSwitch. Although LightSwitch has matured and established a modest foothold in the RAD programming sphere, its official documentation still remains fragmented and incomplete. This is where both this edition and the previous edition have proven to be exceptionally useful. To date, no other LightSwitch manual has offered the same thorough, in-depth, and extensive coverage of the application's capabilities. In addition, a new chapter is included that discusses development using LightSwitch's HTML client, which is new to Visual Studio LightSwitch 2012.

In this edition, the author improves upon the clarity and organization of the book by using the same application data model throughout the book, providing more continuity to the book's example code samples and making it easier to follow. In addition, code examples are better annotated and illustrations are more liberally provided. As before, there is equivalent code samples in both VB.net and C# provided for each method.

If you plan on developing with LightSwitch, you could either search the MSDN forums, StackOverflow and numerous blogs out there to become proficient at it, or you could much more easily read this book.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Technical content looks good, but table of contents stink on my Kindle app 10 octobre 2013
Par Chris Davis - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
First, I'd like to say the content in this book appears to be very extensive and touches on the latest version of Lightswitch 2012. At this time, it's hard to find one definitive source of information on the topic. For this, I would like to commend the author for putting together such a complete resource which has many clear examples.

What I do have problems with is the Table of Contents. I value being able to quickly locate information in a document through bookmarks, table of contents, etc, especially when reading in electronic form. With my Kindle app on my iPad, when clicking on a link in the TOC section, instead of taking me to an appropriate part of the ebook, instead I arrive at a web page that's located at [...] stating "DOI Not Found". This happens with all Table of Content links. I did not find this to be a problem with links that are in the main body of the document which refers you to various tables and examples on different pages.

Thinking my out of date Kindle app might not be handling some new document markup, I thought it was time to perform the update. I updated to version 4 and was still able to duplicate the problem. This leads me to believe that the publisher made a mistake when creating the ebook (at least in the table of contents) which wasn't caught before release.

This appears to be an excellent resource for Lightswitch 2012 - much better than reviewing MSDN resources and doing endless Google searches. Just be aware that if you're using the Kindle app, you're likely going to be spending lots of time manually scrubbing back and forth through the book to find pages. This is the only reason I deducted one star.
