The stand does allow a perfect balance so it doesn't lean and we carried it to the smoker on a cookie sheet to keep from dripping things on the floor while going and the birds never tipped over. What a wonderful design. Thanks so much!
Assembly was a snap and the instructions are good. If you have a buddy around, have him/her help, it goes a lot faster. Functionally it works great. I get a more consistent and longer smoke per handful of wood chips than I did from my Brinkman. The water pan is almost identical to the Brinkman and is sized correctly. The burner assembly and igniter work great (without any wind) and the temp gauge on the front matched two digital gauges I use.
I have done a pork butt, meat loaf and some chicken in the smoker and it has all been perfect. It's winter here in Michigan and I was able to keep the temp up to 250 in 10 degree temperatures with a slight breeze around the smoker. That was about as high as it would go however. I tried smoking cheese in the smoker on a really cold day and even froze the water in the water pan; I could not get the temp below 110 degrees (which was melting my cheese). Had to keep the door open which reduced the smoking affect. For cheese, I suggest lighting some briquettes in the smoker tray and adding your wood to that. Don't even bother with the burner because fully vented the temp would not drop enough even in frigid temperatures.
Packaging was done very well, but mine did show up with a couple dings; it was no fault of Weston however and nothing I was concerned with. It's a great price for under $180 shipped to your house. It is nicer than anything I've seen in stores around the same price range by far.
Didn't try cooking any potatoes on it this time - maybe next time!
