I run quite a bit and have tried a variety of armbands in the past for my iPhone 3 and now my iPhone 4. I use the Runkeeper iPhone app and their website to track my running events, so I really like to carry the iPhone on my arm where I feel it is the most comfortable. When Runkeeper added heart rate support, I ran into that bizarre problem where Apple doesn't support Bluetooth chest straps, etc. (not sure if this is still the case or not) which left me searching for an ANT+ based chest strap and foot pod cadence sensor. Because the ANT+ sensors made by companies like Wahoo stick out of the bottom of the iPhone, I needed a special armband in order to wear it on my arm. I could not find any other option so I ended up buying the Wahoo Armband. I gave it 4 stars because it could stand to be a little better stitched, but considering that I could not find any other option, I have to admit it really is the most comfortable armband I have used.

I was rather frustrated that I had to go ANT+ in order to get all of this to work, but I have to admit, my kit all works fantastic. As an added bonus, my Wahoo ANT+ iPhone setup also allows me to use my Garmin GPS running watch simultaneously, so my watch can pick up my cadence and heart rate in parallel to my iPhone without a hitch. Now, why would I wear both? Because I can monitor my cadence and heart rate in real time on my wrist while having Runkeeper track my run and sound off my pace, avg heartrate, etc. I also like having the GPS watch as a backup when the GPS on the iPhone burps every now and then and miscalculates position.

My kit includes:
iPhone4 with Wahoo ANT+ sensor
Wahoo Armband
Garmin Forerunner 610 watch
Garmin ANT+ chest strap sensor
Garmin ANT+ footpod sensor
Newton running shoes (I had to shamelessly plug my favorite shoe company in Boulder, CO!)

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Best iphone armband i have used 11 mars 2012

Other reviewers have mentioned that the case is tight on iphones - this is correct. I have both an iPhone 3GS and my wife has an iPhone 4 and both require the removal of protective cases. I have never used a screen protector, but I could see how that would be problematic with almost any armband because adding another layer is going to make touch based control even trickier.

To get to the good things about this armband - obviously it is one of the only armbands that I know of which has a cutout slot for ANT+ dongles. Until we see a lot of choices as far as iPhone Bluetooth support, ANT+ is probably our best bet for now.

The other nice thing is that this case is truly water resistant - of the three other armband I have used, this is the only one that works reliably in monsoon like weather conditions. I live in the Pacific Northwest and am an all-weather runner/cyclist - with my other armbands I often had to ziplock bag my iphone to insure that no moisture would leak through an armband. The Wahoo Fitness armband is so cleverly designed, I don't worry about zip locking - the top flap folds over the case portion making sure no water gets in. Now if you dropped it in a puddle or submerged it, you would have issues.

Final thoughts are I would love to see Wahoo create a more hardshell type version of their armband kinda like the bike case with a built-in dongle. But maybe by then we'll all be using bluetooth enabled devices...

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Works great for me! 25 avril 2012

I run/hike outside and do the elliptical/tread/bike in the gym. I was previously using a OtterBox Defender, but I have manage to snag the headphone cord many, many times. The Wahoo armband has solved that. I have used it for a week and it has worked perfectly both in the gym and outside. No more sudden popping of my headphones. I will state that getting the phone into the case is a challenge, but it is water proof (I have verified this with a run in the rain.) and that protection comes at a cost of a tight opening. The headphone cord enters through a flap on the side that velcros shut. There is space in that area to "store" extra cord if you need to shorten your headphone cable to avoid snagging it while you are working out. Also, I use a Digifit ANT+ dongle on my phone to sync with a Garmin HR belt. The Digifit dongle fits just fine as I am sure the Wahoo one does also.

The only reason for 4 stars over 5 is this difficulty in getting the phone into the case.

UPDATE 12/20/2012:

After using this almost daily for 8 months, the flap at the top that protects the phone has started to fray and tear. I still use it when I am at the gym and for outdoor hikes/runs in good weather, but it would no longer protect the phone in wet weather.

I was a little concerned when I got this since many folks said it was hard to get the phone in and out. Personally I have not had much of an issue, although it is a tight fit. The best way to get the phone in and out is to reverse the top flap. It is true that you have to take off any cover you may already have on your phone otherwise it will not fit in, but the plus is that the phone is hugged tight.

The pros:
- Holds phone tight & secure
- Water resistant: this was somewhat important since now i can run in the rain without worrying that my phone is getting wet.
- You can hold a conversation while the phone is in the armband.

The Cons:
- Hard to take phone out.
- Strap is too short.
- Hard to work the phone while its on your arm. I mention this since my last case was a Belkin that snapped in and out of the armband so I could easily work the phone and put it back while running.
3.0 étoiles sur 5 Way overrated on it's sweat proof quality. Has potential... 17 décembre 2012

I'm someone who sweats quite a bit during my gym workouts and has had issues with his iPhone and moisture. I've tried various armbands. I thought this would be the answer- especially given the claims of it beting weather and sweat proof. However, if your arm gets hot and and sweaty, the neoprene will let the moisture or it will be created. The phone is not very wet, but it's totally dry. This could be OK for those who dont sweat much or get tend to get hot. The fact that the headphone jack and the dock port were going to be protected was a big sell. Alas, the moisture doesn't make me feel confident my phone is protected. Aslo since the headphones are snaked through the band, you lost some length. That was an issue on my headphones which have are pretty short. I think I'll go back to my tuneband with it's plastic backing. P.S. People said it was hard to get in and out. I didn't find that an issue.
