5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great for an American with a taste for British walking 29 janvier 2013
Par Elm Ivy - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I received this as a gift, and it has turned out to be a great resource. I have used this both as a guide to how to plan a walking holiday in Britain and as a source for a nice one-day adventure. It goes into a lot of detail. If you're planning one of the multi-day long-distance walks, you probably want something with more coverage than this book, but it's a great resource for deciding which long distance walk you might want to tackle. In June I did a bit of the Cotswold Way and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. I also did a nice day in the Preseli Hills in Pembrokeshire relying entirely on this book, which served me much better than the information I got at the local Tourist Information Center.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A good introduction to hiking in all areas of Great Britain. 10 juillet 1998
Par Un client - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
A good resource for both single and multi-day hikes in all areas of Great Britain. Text is divided into regional sub-sections, making it easy to match your reading to the areas you plan to visit. A fair number of the most popular or readily accessible hikes in each region are thoroughly described. A biblography at the end of each regional section recommends sources of more detailed information about walking in a given area. Detailed listing of "support services": food, lodging, transportation for each listed walk.
The book is small sized, and easily packable, yet the print is easily legible and the pages sturdy enough to withstand traveling and frequent referencing.
A good starting place for hikers not familiar with the area.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Casual walkers should skip this one 10 août 2010
Par KBN in DC - Publié sur Amazon.com

The unilaterally good reviews for this book are what led me to purchase it in advance of my recent trip to the UK. However, I was disappointed to find that there was virtually no info that would be useful to a casual walker/hiker such as myself. The 'short walks' listed are 6-8 hours long, while the 'long walks' are multi-day adventures. There are virtually no routes given for the majority of walkers who are looking for more manageable 1-3 hour afternoon walks. We found the TI maps in each town to be far more helpful, and there are also books out there with a wider variety of walking choices. I ended up ditching this book in a B&B at the end of my stay - hopefully a more hardcore walker will stumble across it and find it useful.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Walking in England? This is for you 29 août 2000
Par Ben Johnson - Publié sur Amazon.com

Picture this. I have spent money and time in finding the right routes. I have just come in from a day walking in Snowdonia and I'm sitting down to eat in a YHA. The man next to me is from Romania. He has just arrived and is equipped with one book which he lets me read. In this book I find all of the best bits of my favourite walks. There is something for everybody and it is very informative. I would have saved loads of money and wasted hours on trips that were not really what I wanted - IF I HAD READ THIS BOOK. Buy it even if you are a resident of the UK and think you know it all already (like me!)
