5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Replacement Battery for my Nikon D800 28 septembre 2012
Par Vu - Publié sur

I have been waiting for a replacement battery for my Nikon D800 for a while now because the OEM is $65 and in my opinion is not worth it, and finally it came out. I actually waited a few days to see if anyone actually would purchase it and write a review before I buy it, but no one did. So I took a chance and buy them before the the price goes up. I got the 2 of the Wasabi from Blue-Nook with the charger kit for better pricing. I guess I'll be the 1st to review it:

Pro: So far the battery is working well when inserted into my Nikon D800. The camera does detect the % of battery remain, and can be charge with the original Nikon charger. I also tried to charge the OEM battery with the Wasabi charger and had no problem so far. I have not had any issue using the battery with the camera itself. The camera detects and uses the battery like how it always does. Not much to comment on that.

Con: I do have the Meike grip. When using this battery with the grip, for some reasons, after turning the camera off for 5-10 mins and turn it back on, the grip couldn't detect the battery in the tray. So I have to take out the battery tray from the grip, and simply reinserted it. It's not too much trouble, but it does get annoying. I tried using the OEM battery with the grip and this issue does not occur. But the problem does not occur when I inserted the battery into the camera itself. So there might be a communication problem between the Meike grip and the battery. Let me know if anyone else encounters this issue and how I can fix it, if possible.

Overall: I am happy with the battery because I don't use the grip that often. I got TWO batteries for a cheaper price than ONE original one. I'll update my review if I see any other issue.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 They really ARE decoded! 20 octobre 2012

This is the first time I've purchased Wasabi batteries. An 'aftermarket' EN-EL15 battery is very hard to find and the one I had previously purchased was definitely NOT decoded (though the ebay seller claimed they were) - my D7000 could not ID the battery or display any information, including state of charge. Needless to say, I didn't have particularly high hopes for the Wasabi batteries but reviews were uniformly good and the price for two was less than half that for the over-priced genuine Nikon battery so I decided to give them a try.

The batteries and charger arrived quickly and both charged in the Nikon charger just like the original. I installed one in the D7000 and one in the MD-11 grip; both were immediately recognized by the D7000 with accurate SOC and use information. I have no useful information on battery life yet - it takes several discharge/charge cycles for li-ion batteries to reach their design performance - but given my experiences so far, I expect them to perform just like the original, especially because the Wasabi cells are made in Japan and are quite likely identical to those in the OEM battery.

One note - the Wasabi charger is smaller, but not nearly as robust as the Nikon and the small battery retention tabs look susceptible to breakage. I plan to keep the Wasabi charger in the car and use it as a back-up, with the included car charger cord, during road trips.

Three hours later. . .

Oops -- found an issue.

I have an aftermarket "no-name" grip that came with a large li-ion battery pack in addition to the regular EN-EL15 and AA battery holders. I don't want to bring another battery charger (for the grip pack) on a long international trip, so I replaced it with one of the Wasabi EN-EL15 batterries. If the D7000 is set to use the camera battery first, the camera properly recognizes both batteries. If I set it to use the MD11 first, the Wasabi battery is recognized when I first turn the camera on and when a turn it off and back on after a short time. However, if the camera is off for more than about 10 minutes, turning it on causes the battery display to flash as if the battery is fully discharged and the camera will not power up. Pulling the battery holder out of the grip and back in solves the problem, at least until the camera is turned off again.

Certainly not a serious problem, but definitely curious behavior! I'm not going to change my 5-star rating as this issue could just as easily be caused by the aftermarket grip as the Wasabi battery. I'll update this review if I can pin down the cause.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Works for Camera AND attached Nikon Battery pack (see update). 25 novembre 2012

Apparently, Nikon threw a curve ball to 3rd party battery suppliers.

When used with Nikon's battery pack, the D600 shows a low battery and the D600 won't turn on.
Btw, this is when the D600 is programed to use the battery pack first (vs the camera).

My work around was to remove the battery or disengage the battery pack and re-engage.
The LCD would then show a full battery charge and the D600 would function again.
This didn't happen when using Nikon OEM batteries.

On the other hand, Wasabi's batteries appear to work when used with just the camera.
However, if you ever choose to add the convenience, balance and added power of an attached battery pack, a Nikon OEM battery is the only option...for now.

***Update 11/27/12***
Excellent Customer Service by Blue Nook. They've advised that the problem may be limited to a small % of the the batteries. Hopefully, the replacement's they're sending will work with the battery pack. Stay tuned! In recognition of their exemplary service, I've boosted the rating to 3 stars.

***Update 12/6/12***
Terry & the good folks at Wasabi Power should change their name to Kimosabi Power (Lone Ranger & Tonto for all you who are wondering). Working with their Asian supplier they finally got the battery/chip to work with both my D600 and Nikon battery grip. Kudos for their persistence in customer satisfaction and soft touch. 5 stars and thanks gents!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 As impressed with the company as with the product! 6 décembre 2012

My initial review was a broad complaint about a faulty battery that held virtually no charge at all; amazingly, I was contacted by the Terry at Blue Nook who apologized for my negative experience and offered to immediately send a battery that had not come from a defective shipment, as the first one apparently had. Within several days I received my new one, found that it worked perfectly, and am now amending my first review to include a first-rate customer service experience. The battery is a fantastic product at an excellent price, and for this day and age, the superior customer service is practically unheard of. I will definitely do business with this company again in the future!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Save your money and skip Nikon's overpriced batteries 29 février 2016

From the prices they charge for them, you would think Nikon's first party batteries are lightyears ahead of any other manufacture's batteries. You would be wrong though. I have two "official" Nikon EN-EL15 batteries and three Wasabi EN-EN15s for my D7000. If I was to remove the labels, I wouldn't know the difference. I have had exactly zero issues with the batteries working exactly like the OEM units both directly in camera or in the battery grip. After the great experience I had with my first Wasabi EN-EL15, I ordered two more with a charger (this product) and have started ordering Wasabi batteries for my other cameras.

I will say, that I like the official Nikon charger better than the one that comes in this kit, BUT the included charger works just fine and I use it regularly. Even if you didn't like the charger at all and tossed it, you are still getting two GREAT batteries for less than one of Nikon's, so I don't think it is worth deducting any stars.
