  • Perform rituals that protect and purify hearth and home
  • Master the secrets of the cauldron and the sacred flame

2.0 étoiles sur 5 Should have been called Hearth Witch 25 juin 2014

As a few other reviewers have mentioned, this book as little to do with hedgecraft, and I really don't understand why the author chose to title it as she did. At the very beginning of the introduction the author explains what a hedgewitch is, and then essentially says she's not going to write about that. Instead she brings in the term hearthcraft, explaining that it's not kitchen witchcraft, and it's not green witchcraft, but at the same time, again, it's also not hedge witchcraft. She's written a book on what she chose to call hearthcraft, and it's not a bad book for those interested in witchcraft that focuses on the hearth and home, but I think it would have been better to leave the term hedge witch completely out of the book.

Although I enjoyed the new perspective on spirituality and the home, this definitely isn't one of my favorite books. I wasn't thrilled with the overall writing style and the layout (particularly how so many things were repeated about a thousand times through the book), but I did find a few things I made note of for possible tweaking and use. From what I know about the more "natural/simple" forms of spirituality and witchcraft, I would not call this "Hedge Witchery," and that term isn't even really used throughout the book. It's all about "hearth craft" and therefore the title is misleading in a way. This is basically a combination of something I haven't seen before (hearth craft, I assume), cottage witchery and kitchen witchery, with hints of green witchery thrown in.

I do want to say that, from my experience, the terms used to describe any type of Witchcraft can be defined differently by everyone. So, while this didn't meet my definition of hedge-witchery, it probably would for others.

I picked up this book hoping for a clear (er) guide on Hedge witchcraft than I had been able to find just perusing the net. This book focuses exclusively on the practices and beliefs that pertain to the traditions associated with the Hearth and inside the home. As I understand it, Hedge witchery also deals with trance practices, herbalism, etc. so this is by no means a complete a guide. However, after one gets through the lengthy first chapter on what the book will be discussing, there are many pearls of wisdom regarding hearth-based practices that make this book a worthwhile read.

Kitchen Witch would have been more appropriate... I feel Hedge Witch is a misleading term in this instance. Not a bad book overall, but not what I thought I was buying. Mostly surrounds Vesta and magic of the hearth... if neither of those call to you, this book probably won't be of much use to you.

I think she confused hedge witches with hearth witches and kitchen witches as it was more orientated towards the hearth and kitchen than actual hedge-witching.
