If you have any physical aches, pains, tension, or residue from traumas or injuries, (and who doesn't?), you owe it to yourself to read this important book. Phil Tavolacci is a practitioner of the John Barnes method of myofascial release therapy, a hands-on approach to healing that reaches deep into the fascial system or "web" of connective tissues permeating our insides. When these tissues are restricted or in any way compromised, we experience a variety of dysfunctions. In the book, Tavolacci weaves his own web, combining compelling memoir with ample information about how and why this approach works so well. In the first section, he describes how this physical therapy technique changed his life as well as that of many other sufferers. The second half consists of testimonials by myofascial release therapy practitioners and patients. They speak in many voices and represent many different perspectives, but all have enjoyed unexpected benefits from this therapy.

Tavolacci's eminently readable book shows us that there is another path for those in pain--a natural alternative to the band-aid approach of ever-increasing doses of medication. That alternative is myofascial release therapy.

For anyone who has ever traveled the frustrating road of trying to find relief from chronic pain, this book is a must. Phil Tavolacci will open your mind to a different way of viewing pain (including, for example, the emotional pain of depression)and a different approach to treating it. The book is written in an invitingly clear, conversational style and is filled with fascinating facts and personal stories that you will relate to and learn from. But I'm not just a reader; I've been treated by Phil, and I can say with confidence that he is both an authority on myofascial release and a true healer. The Western approach to medicine so often alienates us from the practitioner and segregates the body/mind into artificial compartments; the practice of myofascial release, as developed by John Barnes and practiced by Phil, does the opposite, with the gentle laying on of hands and manipulation of the fascia providing both psychological comfort and often major improvements in mobility and relief of pain. This book will teach you to approach your own pain differently as well, not as something to be battled against or suppressed, but as something to be understood holistically and then worked through. This is not airy-fairy, New-Agey nonsense; indeed, what you will learn from this book comes from traditions of healing that have stood the test of time and could actually change your life.

Similar to the author, Phil Tavolacci, I was a physical therapist who was skeptical of the Myofascial Release approach, until it helped me heal from my own debilitating chronic pain. Now, this approach is a main part of my clinical practice. This book provides an interesting and thorough look at the Myofascial Release approach by inter-weaving Phil’s healing story with technical aspects of the approach and patient testimonials. The latter part of the book also shares the personal healing stories of clinicians. All these viewpoints help to accurately present the highly individual and multi-layered nature of the healing process and the Myofascial Release approach. Phil’s personal story was especially moving and a great example of the process of honestly looking within to transform underlying shame and fear into loving self acceptance.

This book does a great job of explaining the principles of John Barnes Myofascial Release and
the benefits of receiving treatment. It explains why John Barnes Myofascial Release is different
from other myofascial release treatments.

It also has great true stories from people who have been treated and who are therapists.
If you want to learn more about John Barnes Myofascial Release Treatment and how it
can impact your life this is a must read. Its one of those books that I will read again and again.

What an incredible collection of personal stories Phil and his group tell. They allow us to realize the variety and depth of the human healing experience and that helps us be aware. We get an understanding about myofascial release that we may not have had before. Everyone on a healing journey should read this and, if they haven't tried MFR before, they should surely be inspired to do so now! Thank you for telling your story Phil, and for including ours in your amazing book.
