Présentation de l'éditeur

Growing up in a conservative polygamous community, Eliza Christianson was a young woman of faith who could never quite wrap her mind around the fundamentalist aspects of her religion. Thanks to her older brother Jacob, she managed to survive adolescence unmarried, even enrolling in classes at the University of Utah. Eliza always suspected God had more in store for her than just to be some man’s third or fourth wife; nonetheless, she is surprised when Allison Caliari seeks her out for help. Allison’s daughter Madeline has been recruited by a doomsday cult led by a cruel man known only as the Disciple, and she wants Eliza’s help to get the girl back. One of the few leads Allison can offer is a fateful one: Jacob and Eliza’s brother David, a “lost boy” shunned by the church. Eliza sets out to convince David to help her infiltrate the cult, and she ventures to an abandoned dumping ground in the Las Vegas desert to rescue Madeline. The third installment of Michael Wallace’s enthralling Righteous series, The Wicked tears off the veil of religious fanaticism as seen through the eyes of an extraordinary heroine.

HASH(0x8ca8a678) étoiles sur 5 Michael Wallace has hit another home run! 2 juin 2011

Michael Wallace has hit another home run, knocking it out of the ball park with The Wicked from The Righteous series. This time the focus is on Eliza and yet another of the Kimball sons, Caleb Kimball, who calls himself The Disciple. The Disciple gathers his flock of followers around him in the desert outside of Las Vegas where he prepares his Chosen Ones for the end of the world.

I can't seem to get enough of this series. Thank goodness Michael has left the door open for a possible 4th book in the series with the ending of The Wicked. One can only hope this is the case.

I love Michael's writing style. The only way I can see that he hasn't been picked up by one of the Big 6 publishing houses is by his choice. It certainly isn't from lack of skill and story telling. Michael, you rock!

I've read the first three of these books, and have finally decided that though they are well-written (those reviewers who mention typos & grammar issues must've picked up on something I missed, as I think I recall one typo in all three books) overall, I simply do not like them. While they do drag in areas, for the most part the author has done a good bit of very nice writing. I'd love to see the author ditch this series and focus on non-religious fiction. This is very much a split review, I know.

So, good writing aside, I do feel that the author is trying to straddle a line between being "factual" and titillating (both in a traditional sense and in an almost equally prurient "outsider peeking into a closed society" sense) but the books are filled with subtle (and sometimes not-so-subtle) mainstream LDS proselytizing. If that's your cuppa, great, enjoy. But considering these are not filed under a religious category, it is frankly pretty annoying to be hit over the head with some of the subject matter that is written as fact (w/out any spoilers, I'm just saying that the whole David storyline was deeply irritating).

In short, as we get to know the characters better, the less I liked - or related to - any of them. Perhaps that is my own prejudice showing, perhaps it is the author's intent for whatever reason. Perhaps because I am not LDS, fundamentalist Morman or a member of a Judeo-Christian organized religion I simply can't get into that groove. So, I appreciate Amazon's .99 cent special for the first three in the series, but I wouldn't recommend them to any of my friends for any more, or less, than that.

In The Wicked (Righteous Series #3) by Michael Wallace we again have the Christianson's pitted against the Kimball's. This time our main characters are Eliza who sets off to retrieve a kidnapped/brainwashed girl who has been abducted by The Disciple (Caleb Kimball)

Eliza infiltrates the Doomsday cult to find the followers are wayward youth who are being starved and sexually abused under the guise of purification, sanctification and cleansing.

Former FBI agent Sister Miriam goes to Las Vegas in an attempt to bring David Christianson back into the fold after the unconvinced and devious patriarch Abraham Christianson reluctantly agrees to lift his ban on the boy. In this book Jacob becomes a secondary character along with is wife Fernie leaving the heavy lifting to his sister, Eliza.

At the end of the book the reader realizes there may be more to the feud between the two families than meets the eye. Who can be trusted? Who can't?

The Wicked leads us into the desert compounds of polygamist sects of the Mormons and has us asking more questions than are answered. Again, this is an entertaining book on many levels and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

This is a great series with great characters. Right from the first book you will love all the characters, good and evil. These are very quick and easy reads so if you get hooked you won't have to worry about giving up too much of your life to get caught up in this series :) These books are very suspenseful and exciting, and also very informative about the Mormon lifestyle I love how Michael Wallace is very interactive with his fans and is always willing to put his books on sale or even give them away for free for people to try out. I love every book in this series and can't wait until the next one comes out!

Just finished Wallace's latest in the Righteous series and it just keeps getting better. The continuation of this story flows well. The character's remain true to previous writings and yet I think you could read this story independent from the others. But this would be like eating one Lay's potato chip. I will follow this story to the end and also read the excerpt for The Red Rooster which I picked up. It also looks like a great read.

Keep 'em coming Mr. Wallace. You have a gift that was meant to be shared.
