Présentation de l'éditeur

He became famous with Genesis but simply to call Peter Gabriel a pop star would be to sell him very short indeed. A quintessential Englishman, he has since pursued several overlapping careers, bringing to each of them his trademark preoccupation with quality control and restless curiosity.

In 1975, after leaving the band that made him famous he diversified into writing movie soundtracks, various audio-visual ventures, tireless charity work and supporting major peace initiatives. He also became world music’s most illustrious champion, launching the WOMAD festival and recording solo albums that featured musicians from every corner of the globe. These and several other careers make writing Peter Gabriel’s biography an unusually challenging task, but Daryl Easlea has undertaken hours of new interviews with key friends, musicians, aides and confidants to get to the very heart and soul of Peter Gabriel, his music and his complex life. The result is an extraordinary biography of an extraordinary man.

A decent book and well written for the most part. It includes lots of information and very interesting info about early Genesis and Gabriels early up to mid career -- up until around the end of Security. It starts to get a little rushed starting from the So album onwards. Certain things such as: Why did he mysteriously split with his long time manager? Why did certain musicians who worked with him for a long time through the first 4 albums suddenly stop working for him for the most successful album and tours and stage of his career? These sorts of things are just left hanging in the air and the writer relegates it to PG's creative growth spurs. There was some interesting info about his business enterprise ventures into the Fairlight CMI company as well as some of the early companies in online music sales and distribution. An entertaining and well written book but it does comes across as a book written by a very big fan of his where PG can never really do any wrong. It does not come come across as a an objective viewpoint on the subject.

So well written about my favorite artist/visionary. Peter is really in another league by himself! He has contributed so much to this planet. GET THE BOOK, WONDFULLY WRITTEN ABOUT A WONDERFUL. I have met him and his mother on SECRET WORLD tour. Also got an autographed copy of PLAYS LIve , outside the Seattle Paramount. Wow I have listened to him and Genesis for 40 Years. LONG LIVE, Regards, Kent

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Peter Gabriel Without Frontiers 22 mars 2014

In his new new biography, Without Frontiers: The Life and Music of Peter Gabriel, author Daryl Easlea manages to craft a definitive look at the man and his art. Peter's life, music, performances, videos, productions, and charitable endeavors are covered in depth from the late 1960's when forming Genesis up to today. The book is very well researched, as Daryl takes care to include frequent direct quotes from Peter, his band members, management, and friends. I found his inclusion of remarks by key collaborators including Peter Hammill, Richard MacPhail, and Daniel Lanois particularly interesting and revealing. These observations contain insights into not just Peter's work, but his life, such that the reader really gets a sense of him as a person.

Don't waste your money. The person who put this book together never even spoke to Peter Gabriel. This book is just a mélange of previous interviews cobbled together. It is extremely dry and disjointed. It reads like a police blotter with bad grammar. Easlea leaves too many thoughts unfinished and jumps off to another topic to leave unfinished. On the other hand, some subjects are just thoroughly beaten into the ground, making this book quite tedious. I've had it for a year and still can't get thru it. Wish I started reading it right after I bought it so I could have returned it!
5.0 étoiles sur 5 A view into the uncompromising art of Gabriel.. ... 24 octobre 2015

A view into the uncompromising art of Gabriel... a real insight into the earliest Genesis days, I got a real vibe on the demeanor of him... in his music and art he has created a relationship with the world at large. The author also deaves into the creative supporters: engineers, producers, ect... in fact there are links to interviews both printed and video, links to the individual musicians on his albums. All this shows what a "listener" Peter Gabriel is. I will read this book many times and will glean new insights for years to come.
