5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Guide Every Writer Should Have. 13 février 2015

Although I consider myself an experienced writer, I bought this anyway, even though some of the reviewers criticized it for being basic and drawing information from outside sources. Quite frankly, I don't give a damn where the information comes from as long as it is useful, well organized, and the author gives credit where credit is due. And this book does all three.

What I really like about this book is it goes right to the meat and doesn't embellish it with a lot of superfluous fill. It's an easy and entertaining read and gives out information in a way it will be remembered. There are many reference books out there that are boring and difficult to read and it takes a special person to persist all the way through to the end. My bookshelf is laced with books just like that.

But this book is a joy to read and the information is solid. Once started, I couldn't put it down. Each chapter is arranged so it naturally flows from the previous one and effectively answers questions that arise during the read. Even though parts of this book are indeed gleaned from other sources, the way it is presented is its real strength. And because the information is universally espoused, you can have confidence it has withstood the test of time and works!

In my opinion, the best way to utilize this book is to read it once before you start your novel and then read it again when you are one-third and two-thirds through it. That way you can reassess your creative effort to make sure you are hitting all the goal posts.

Sadly, I read a lot of books from independent authors which have absolutely exquisite writing but fall short in terms of story line. Having wonderful writing skills is not the same as writing a good story. Generally, it's the story that sells books; the writing is only the medium that gets the ideas across.

If the information contained in this book is rigorously adhered to, I'm certain it will bring life and recognition to your novel. I highly recommend it!

Jodie Renner's 40-page ebook, TENSION, SUSPENSE, & INTRIGUE - WRITING A KILLER THRILLER, is one to keep at hand while you're writing your next mystery or thriller. Readers of mystery fiction who are curious about the scaffolding that underlies a good mystery plot would also find this of interest.

Sure, I know most writers have a shelf of How To books guiding them. Lots of them pad the material, wasting considerable space giving long examples of a point. Not so, this one is tight, compact, and every page useful.

The amount of information on each page can be overwhelming and you slap your forehead thinking, "Yeah, if I could only remember all this." Renner makes it easier. The writing is short, punchy, and cohesive.

A series is planned in this format covering all aspects of the craft of fiction. I plan to buy every single one of them.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The Best I Read! 4 juin 2013

I can't speak highly enough for Jodie Renner's books, Writing a Killer Thriller, and Style That Sizzles. I recently finished the first draft of my first novel. On a whim, I entered it in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest, and it made the second round. Thankfully, it did not make the next cut, since it contained a multitude editing issues. I decided to plunge in and read every book on editing I could get my hands on before I attempt a second draft. Jodie Renner's Style That Sizzles and Writing a Killer Thriller were far and away the two best such books I found. They showed me both what was working in my novel, as well as what I must do to make needed changes. I also feel my next novel will be that much easier to write because of what I learned from her. Jodie's own style sizzles, which makes her books a joy to read. These are fantastic guides to both writing the thriller and editing for any genre.

Talk about setting a scene! I just downloaded Jodie Renner's TENSION, SUSPENSE, & INTRIGUE - Writing a Killer Thriller the other day, and have been taking notes (and making progress!) ever since. With this 40-page "booklet," Ms. Renner has not only created a direct, no-nonsense "road map" for all the essentials that go into writing tight, clean, thrill-filled fiction, but she has also given us a tiny can't-put-it-down offering that, most pointedly, gives glimpse into what every writer of thriller fiction should know, and most likely grapples with, in creating fiction that not only shocks...but SELLS. Whether aspiring, or a writer who is a bit more seasoned, this "little" offering is a must-have tutorial for any writer who seeks to be GREAT rather than just good. This will help get you to where you most want to go with your writing, but don't take my word for it. DOWNLOAD Ms. Renner's TENSION, SUSPENSE, & INTRIGUE - Writing a Killer Thriller...You'll be glad you did! And so will your readers!

To Ms. Renner: "Jodie, your directive not only fuels me to keep forging ahead with my own writing, but it has actually served to infuse me with the hope necessary, to BELIEVE I can actually make this happen for myself! As a first-time-out writer, I have taken countless bits of advice from this little booklet of yours. Saying thank you, seems to pale in comparison to what I truly feel. I can only hope that this little "jolt" of yours, will pay off in my ability to write compelling suspense fiction, that will soon entertain reading audiences worldwide. Until then, I guess offering a simple "thank you" will have to suffice. I'm so glad to have come across your little "writing class" in booklet form! Thanks again!" - Mark Parker, Boston, MA
