The first 5 volumes comprise one over arching arch. Yes, you need to grasp the idea that each volume is part of a large storyline. The overall storyline is about the man known as "XIII", but within that storyline are smaller arches. Think of some of the serielised tv series of late. Don't expect each volume to be totally stand along.
Volume one sets the stage, when "XIII" (we don't know his real name) is found by a couple on the coast of Maine. He has amnesia, and doesn't know who he is. A "XIII" is found tatooed on his collarbone, hence the title.
We find out that there has been an assasination of the President of the US by an unknown conspiracy. And that XIII is that man, former US Army Captain Steve Rowland. This volume sets things up, as "XIII" tries to find out who he is, and deals with 2 groups after him: the "Mongoose", who is trying to kill him, and Colonel Amos, who is leading the investigation into the assasination.
THIS SAGA CONTINUE THE STYLE OF ADVENTURE/MYSTERY LIKE ACTIONS FILMS OF USA.
IF ANYBODY CAN READ IT, WILL BE DECIDED TO CONTINUED READING THE OTHERS TITLES.
However, we reach a crucial point, it is, in fact, a comic book. A 42-page comic book telling the first instalment of Code XIII's story: aka...
An old couple by the sea were living a happy life, however one day, they find a body next to the shore. The man, shot in the head, is however still alive, and survives with a white hair spot above his ear. However, he doesn't remember who he is, or anything about his life, actually.
To complicate things a little bit, and because it would be no interesting story should our man had been a simple retail store employee, several people find he is still alive and proceed to try to kill him. One of them carrying a key and a picture, XIII goes on his way to finding who he really is.
Sounds similar to The Bourne Identity? It is. Except in a seven-book instalment, which leads to a great disadvantage: The story doesn't end on the 42nd page. That means to understand the full story, you have to get the following books (and you will want to) - however, they haven't been translated yet. And there is nothing leading us to believe that it will be.
