The Saturdays make history yet again! You can find upbeat tracks in the albums first two singles, "Notorious" and "All Fired Up", and non-single songs such as "Get Ready, Get Set", and "The Way You Watch Me" featuring singer Travie McCoy. Soothing songs lie within single "My Heart Takes Over", and non-single songs such as "Wish I Didn't Know", and "Last Call". You won't regret buying this excellent album by The Saturdays!
5.0 étoiles sur 5 The Saturdays: On Your Radar. Electronic Dance fun! 19 mars 2013
Par B. Wade - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
In November 2011 British-Irish Girl Group The Saturdays returned with thier third ( fourth overall) studio album "On Your Radar". The group's future had been called into question by some after the lukewarm sales of thier second studio album "Wordshaker" and member Una Healy's pregnancy. However Una and the rest of the girls made it clear The Saturdays aren't going anywhere and all five members were and are fully commited to the future of The Sats. The album was intended to show the girls's growth and maturity with a more sexy, electronic, club sound and feel to the album. Did OYR do it's job to push the Sats into new terrotory. I think it did so lets see!
1.) All Fired Up: The album begins ironically with the second single. This despite the heavy use of the vocorder its one of mine and many Sats fans personal favorites. From the thumping Euro dance beat( one of the staples of the album) to the fun flirty if a bit shallow lyrics, this is a club/dance track plain and simple. It's not meant to change the world its meant to make the listener dance and thats exactly IMO what it does. Another bonus the song is written and produced by Brian Higgins and Miranda Cooper aka Xenomania the writers/producers behind the majority of Girls Aloud's albums ( among others including producers Space Cowboys and MNEK)10/10
2.)Notorious:The album continues with the first single it begins with a plunking studio effect and Mollie "I'm an outlaw, I'm the big boss, I'm a gangster on the dance floor!" Then to the dubstep style chorus" Closer baby look in my eyes do ya reconize me?! Ive been a bad girl, I'mma bad girl I'm notorious!" Una then comes in with the second verse "Boy beware I've got a record and I'm known for my style, and everybody knows my name here I'm the head of game here. Pleasure and the pain yeah because my resume says I'm a bad girl!" Even with the somewhat chliche "bad girl" bragging ( what female top 40 artist isn't bragging about how badass they think they are these days after all) the song is another one of my favs great dance beat but more downtempo from "All Fired Up" a different style and structure as well IMO one of the album's best.10/10
3.)Faster: This "baby I love you so much I need you" song isn't bad and each girl gives thier part thier all however it is very IMO bland. It reminds one of "Here Standing" and "Lose Control" from The Sats's second album "WordShaker". As well as "Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum. "So I am standing here locked to you, I realise that I need you now, to make my heart be fast. You are the only one, and I'm so sorry that I'm such a fool baby I know that I need you now you are the only one who makes my heart beat faster, faster, faster." Overall the standard euro beat is IMO meh and the lyrics are a bit cheesy it's ok.7/10
4.)My Heart Takes Over: The third and final single from the album (which under-performed due to lack of promotion)Is another gem IMO. This "are we gonna breakup or stay together and work it out" ballad is better than many Sats ballad IMO which are usually weighed down by drab beats or crappy lyrics this one isn't. Vanessa starts "Whats it gonna be are you willingly walking away from this? What's it gonna take can you really break this love?... Cause if you leave baby then leave make up your mind before you shut the door." Then the great chorus "Cause if there's a chance we might have missed. And if there's a ray of light in this baby you should know that this is where my heart takes over. And if there's a small peice left of us somwhere in the battles we have lost baby look at me cause this is where my heart takes over." Rochelle has the second verse "...And look me in the eye promise I won't cry this is your choice to make. Cause if you go baby then go you change your mind I won't be here no more." Excellent vocals by all great mid-tempo beat with some cool and not overdone effects.10/10
5.)Get Ready,Get Set: This attitude packed party track is fun and enjoyable with nice sexy lyrics and a danceable beat IMO. Vanessa Rochelle and Una start us off "I can do it with my hands tied behind my back yeah I know your gonna like it like that, I can give you the keys to my world feel this music in my head yeah this night I won't forget". "Get ready get set cause the more I get the more more more I want. I'm not done yet cause the more I sweat the more more more I want." My favorite part is Mollie's bridge "Tell me what I want, its the feeling I need it. Theres no right or wrong, no gimmicks no limit. Come on let it on come feel it I need it hear my body cry with desire."10/10
6.)The Way You Watch Me ft.Travie McCoy: This track is more rock-pop inspired reminding one of some of the songs from WordShaker. Normally though I have notthing against him don't enjoy Travie's featuring credits as he tends to sound out of place. However here he fits right in and dare I say actually adds something nice to the track. The typical club "Checking you out, your checking me out lets hookup" lyrics would be bland if not for the girls's and Travie's great vocals and the great fun beat. Frankie Starts us off" One thing I love is acting like I don't know, when boy I really know, that your on me eyes are hungry and it shows. It's a no go unless I'm in control." Then Mollie comes in " I'm not the kind of girl you choose, I'm choosing you no exception to the rule with the way that you... Chorus "The way you watch me, the way you watch walk in through the door. I know what you're ready for. The way you watch me, the way you watch me glide across the floor I know what you're ready for (Travie:" I wanna do more than watch, just a little bit more than watch.") I've gotta be honest though, I'm just gonna be honest though I already choose you long ago so go go grab your coat!"10/10
7.)For Myself: Ah it's breakup song time, The sats staple is done well here if not a little settled and standard club fair. My only real complain about this album is after a while the euro-dance beats start to sound the same IMO. The songs are still enjoyable but after a while all the standard dubstep/euro-pop/club music can get tired IMO. The Girls give thier all on every track as usual however and that makes them worth it. Rochelle starts "There's always an I'm sorry after every outburst another apology, theres always a make-up after every freakin break-up so tell me what we're doing babe" Vanessa comes in with the bridge "Why oh why do we play this game always want the last word. Its a war that no one can win we just keep getting hurt" the chorus sums it up quickly "But I want you for myself, I still want you for myself". Overall great vocals and the slower beat leading into the chrous is nice. 8/10
8.)Do What You Want With Me: Another One of my personal favs. This sensual jam slows it down a little and takes the listener away from the club dance stuff for a second (until the ill-advised sped up ending at least) into a romantic mood for that special someone. Rochelle leads the start "My love tonight, I can't control my love tonight. I think I've found my pure delight you got me at the speed of light." The chorus: "If you fall for me, then let it be oh you can do what you want with me, I'll hold you close won't let you go, oh you can do what you want with me." Wonderful higher range harmonies on the chorus and great vocals on the solo parts. 10/10
9.)Promise Me: This one grew on me due it's r&b feel and strong vocals. It's another "You are not treating me right so I'm done with you" song but the lyrics are stronger than expected and despite the standard top 40, dubstep club beat the lyrics and feel IMO make up for it. Rochelle:"So here we are again, I'm almost givin' in I'm over listening about who you with or where you've been. I got drunk with my friends a list from one to ten,are you the man that I need? No! Vanessa: If I was doing this would you put up with this? Do what your mama said love or leave alone! I'm gone cause all you ever do..." Chorus:" You promise me the world, you promise me never to let down a girl, but know I know it's time to go. Tonight I'm gonna go and party without you" Frankie:" Your womanizing games, although you say you've changed, I guess I'll always be your option not priority." Una: "The best you never had, one day you'll wish me back, there won't be no one like me."10/10
10.)Wish I didn't know: about one partner in a relationship wishing she didn't know that her man has been unfaithful but after having seen him with another girl with her own two eyes she can't and it just keeps playing in her mind, though for the time being she chooses to stay in the relationship and not confront him knowing he'll just lie to her. This Mollie lead track is nicely done, with its stripped down production and great vocals by all is another breakup ballad done right IMO. "Seeing the laughter in your eyes, seeing the smile I thought was mine. Watching you kiss her lips goodbye things I wish I didn't know. If I could wipe this memory, go back to when that girl was me. The day that I should have stayed at home and I wish I didn't know." 9/10
11.)White Lies: This track about the protaginist coming clean with her man about the "white lies" she's been hiding from him isn't the best IMO. It's average compared to the better songs on the album and a bit fillerish but still very a good effort. 7/10
12.)Last Call: Another breakup ballad, however it is stripped down with a simple piano arrangement and soft yet powerful vocals by all of the girls. This one with the protaginist filled with regret over a breakup and wanting her former love back, still struggling to move on from what they had. "I would wait for you, I would wait all night. Just the thought of you before I close my eyes its too late I can't take anymore. And I can't let go and I can't forget, all that I'm left holding is my regret. And it feels like we could have had it all and you're still my last call." they emotionally croon. 10/10
13.)I Say Ok: This mid-tempo jam about confidantly enjoying and loving yourself no matter what anyone else says is a nice feel good touch to the album IMO. "Hey then I'd rather be ugly. Baby I say ok, just as long as I love me ( I don't give a shhhh! don't give a damn!) I say ok (come and lay it on me if you can) I say ok (come and lay it on me if you dare). The beat is again standard top 40 dance but slowed down a bit, and more confidantly relaxed if you will.9/10
14.) Move On U: The album closes out on a nice note with another one of my personal faves. The song takes the same attitude from All Fired Up, Notorious, The Way You Watch Me and Get Ready, Get Set. The Girls strolling into the club making the boys drool and having a blast. Though the beat is yet again typical top 40 euro dance the attitude, the vocals and sassy lyrics give more than enough to make up for that. "Some girls won't make no play happy to sit and wait I won't be waiting all night. Some girls they bite thier tongue I'll tell you straight upfront got my attention tonight." "I'm working up a sweat drippin down my neck I got you right in my sight." Come baby be my sin, don't worry about a thing just satify me tonight." The Chorus:" Cause you turn me, turn me(on) right here right now, I'm gon move on you when the lights go down. I can work you baby, I'll show you how I'm gon move on you when the lights go down."10/10
Overall IMO ON Your Radar despite its over-realiance on dubstep/euro dance beats is a more mature complete album than Chasing Lights, WordShaker. The Girls really show how much they have grown, both in thier wonderful vocals and the lyrics. This is currently my favorite Saturdays album and I'm not alone many Sats fans enjoy OYR. While all of the group's albums so far are enjoyable this one really shows on a whole with a few exceptions what they can do with a whole album as opposed to just some smashing singles like Ego, Up and Forever Is Over. Here I really enjoyed the album as a whole and didn't skip one song something I rarely do. The girls gave thier all and emotionally connected to the songs well even from the stripped down emotional ballads to the party jams. Hence why I gave this one 5 stars. I can't wait until the Sats's next full album and I would recommend this one to any pop music fan. Overall 10/10.

If you want to get into The Sats start here. It's very Britney Spears on a lot of tracks. Good, fun electro pop music and great ballads and funk and all other good stuff as well...a lil dub as well as they do keep up with the times, don't they.
