Revue de presse

The Daily Yomiuri (Tokyo), Dec. 2, 2006

“Dregni brings a light touch to what is essentially a company history, adding plenty of anecdotes of rink-rat hijinks and cross-country voyages to leaven the dry statistics.”

Toronto Star, Dec. 3, 2006

“Who knew there was so much to know about the big Z, that it could actually make for a highly entertaining book loaded with photos?”, January 2007
“My favorite new book is Eric Dregni’s ‘Zamboni: The Coolest Machines on Ice,’ a richly illustrated book from Voyageur Press.”

Présentation de l'éditeur

Until 1949, resurfacing an ice rink required a tractor-pulled shaver followed by three or four workers scooping away the shavings and then spraying and squeegeeing water. The process-including the refreezing-took more than an hour. That all changed when a tireless inventor by the name of Frank J. Zamboni, who also happened to own a 20,000-square-foot rink in Southern California, put his mind to creating a quality sheet of ice in a shorter time. The story of the machines he produced-now as beloved as ice skates and hockey pucks among winter sports enthusiasts-is fully told for the first time in this book, a fun-filled history of machine-age ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit that forever changed the nature of sports on ice. Beginning with a prehistory of the machines, this fully illustrated book goes on to explore the early genesis of Zamboni ice-resurfacing machines, how a Zamboni works, tips from drivers, various models that have evolved through the years, colorful anecdotes from and about Zamboni drivers, and more. Entertaining sidebars examine such topics as Zamboni wipeouts, non-ice-resurfacing machines from the company, the Zamboni factories, Zamboni toys, and television ""roles."" Officially licensed, the book features a wealth of material from the Zamboni archives.

This book is not for everyone. But if you love ice hockey or figure skating, this book will build your historical appreciation for the machine that turns arena ice into perfection in so little time. It's also a very cool book for those who love ingenious inventions, or for those who love to collect NHL team Zamboni memorabilia. This book has many beautiful illustrations and pictures both in color and in black and white, along with many different models pictured of the world famous Zamboni. I love this book and I find it fun to give to those who appreciate the Zamboni.

This book has a lot of wonderful pictures and my 5 year old loves it. He loves Zamboni's and there aren't a lot of books out there about them. I do not care for the lay out of the book. Since there are so many pictures and captions you will find yourself reading and skipping a few pages to continue your sentence. Then you end up back tracking to go back to the pictures and the captions. All in all I consider this a great buy and a very informative book.

My 3 yr old grandson (going on 30) loves anything hockey and especially zambonies. This one is not a story book for children but he LOVES it anyway because of all the pictures of so many different styled Zamboonis!
Sure glad I got it for him. I also got Z is for Zamboni and that is a story book for children. I am a hero in my grandson's eyes. Doesn't get better than this, thanks to Amazon and your great lists of available books.

I bought this book for my grandson who plays ice hockey. I think the ice rinks still use this machine and this book brings history into the sport he plays and the concept that it only takes a need to make things happen. (Hopefully he will actually read it, not just leave it around to collect dust),
