This is a well written thriller, which comes a long way to show that the author has the knack to tell a good story. It is fast-paced and suspenseful, all necessary ingredients for a thriller, and the setting comes in handy to make "The Temporary Agent" a worthy read. The characters are well-developed too, but the plot did not live up to my expectations. Like in other well-researched novels like "Triple Agent Double Cross", "The Key to Rebecca" and a host of other novels out there with memorable characters who could not escape their pasts, this novel provides a good insight into the lives of "Dogs of War".

It is good when we come across a story that is this captivating. Even though It was easy for me to figure quite early in the story who the villain is, the brilliant nature of the plot, characterization and the smoothness of the writing made the read easy and enjoyable. The Predator, Disciples of Fortune and The Master and the Margarita are books to read again this month.

I like stories with a twist that throw me off at a time that I am thinking I have figured out the plot. The Girl in the Ice qualifies as one of such stories, and a thriller at that. I found myself in the borderline area in determining the true nature of the killer, and Robert Bryndza did a good job of keeping up the suspense, the intensity and the flow of the story all the way to the end. I like this style, seen in works like "Flash of the Sun, Triple Agent Double Cross, The Last Man, Inferno. It goes a long way in making stories truly thrilling.

I like books that pique my mind, especially ones with well-explored and unique characters who find themselves in fascinating settings, difficult situations and get things done right. Elizabeth Edmondson's quality English detective meets those special qualities and deserves to set her apart from the throng of writers out there. A Man of Some Repute, helped me understand post WWII Britain better and introduced me to the unbelievably wonderful character Hugo. Hugo like Gavin in the thriller Triple Agent Double Cross, is a hound in every sense of the word and sets the story going at a pace that is awesome.

A well-written fast-paced story with all the suspense, fine details and character dissections to make it the fascinating read that it is. A style to die for, seen in other works like Janvier Chando's "Flash of the Sun" and Vince Flynn's "The Last man". "Find Her" comes on top of several of Lisa Gardner's other works that confirms her as a pacesetter.

Not often do we come across debut novels that are gripping reads. But in "The Short Drop", Matthew FitzSimmons accomplished that fit in his suspenseful novel full of political intrigues. In this compact story full of awesome moments, an apparent style found in recent political thrillers like "Flash of the Sun", "The God's Eye View", and "Triple Agent Double Cross", Matthew FitzSimmon efficiently combines a masterful plot with fascinating characters and setting to produce this spellbinder. I look forward to his second novel.

A fascinating account of the Eurasian landmass that was once a formidable superpower. Today, it is even more mysterious and complicated. The countries that came out of the USSR are following different paths and embracing new allies that would make them even more dissimilar in the next generation. So insightful books like Ukraine: the West's Tug-of-war with Russia, and Red Notice really come in handy to help us navigate this region.

It is rare to come across books, whether fiction or non-fiction, that give us an insight into countries we have never heard about or countries we have barely heard about; so when we see one about a seemingly completely small country, especially in a continent like Africa that the world seems to ignore, it is a rare gift. When the book is well written and tells us so much, then we are taken. I am taken by Anjan Sundaram's "Bad News: Last Journalists in a Dictatorship", Janvier Chouteu-Chando's "Cameroon: The Haunted Heart of Africa", and Michela Wrong's "In the Footsteps of Mr Kurtz: Living on the Brink of Disaster in the Congo". The rest of the world has a lot to learn from Africa.

Tami Hoag's "The Bitter Season" lived up to expectations. A well written novel with a plot to die for and written in a smooth flowing manner. Great characterization too. The twists and turns reminds me of the nature of the thriller "Triple Agent Double Cross". I look forward to more of Tami Hoag's works.
