This book rocked my socks!!! I loved almost everything about the characters and the story. The writing was excellent, poetic, but yet easy to read.Arghh..now I need to wait some more months to find out how the things will turn out for my heroes. Anyway, If you didn't read this book yet, read it!
5/5 shining stars

This book could be much better. Main heroine (Jordyn) is too perfect: too strong, too funny, too much everything. She is flawless..and I hate to see my heroes flawless. She is always laughing, smiling..too happy for someone who pretends not to be. There was no high and low moments, no twists and turns..because, as I said before Jordyn is infallible. She is funny, but she lacks depth. Immature, stubborn and selfish brat.

WoW..It's been a long time since I've been addicted to a book. Yep, Sarah J.Maas has my full devotion and adoration. Even if this kind of books (fantasy) do not really my cup of tea, this book has such a strength, such a perfect writing, that it impossible to not love it.
Even if I hated the first half...
Yes, I know, some people loved some sweet romance and Caleana being more feminine..I know,I loved it at first too, but then it become kind of boring. When something terrible has happened everyone loved to see Caleana being more human, but after sometime it became also boring. I needed something, something deeper than that. So,as I said the first half (or rather the first 70%) of the book was good, but not great.
And then...
Mindblowing last 30% ! Oh, action, emotions (strong and heart scorching emotions)...darkness and epic end. I loved every word, every line, every page of this 30%, I was like paralyzed on my sofa...WTF? Why? How?
Five epic stars!

"That's the thing about Raven. She hardly asks questions. She didn't ask how I got home. What I was going to do about my dad's car. Why I didn't go to the hospital. But as much as I love not being grilled, I wonder if there is something wrong with our friendship, if she should have asked those questions".
Bizarre comme amitié...de plus, quand Ember mentionne un garçon (Acher), Raven répond:
"Guys like Acher don't really look at girls like you. There are more my type".
(et là, je fais tourné les yeux au plafond)
P.S: pourquoi la majorité de personnages ont des yeux gris? Est l'auteur fan de ce couleur ou c'est juste comme ça?

It wasn't bad, but there are hundreds of other similar books that are much better. The story look like a mix of Cinderella and Beautiful Disaster. Why? Ok, imagine rich, handsome boy meets poor girl(as in Cinderella). They have sleepovers (platonic, as in Beautiful Disaster) and girl's dad is actually a con (as in...yes...Beautiful Disaster)!!! So, this is the book about two people, their different social class, their issues and their attempt to overcome it in order to stay together.
Characters: ok, even if Raya (the girl) was too whiny about her "poorness".
Story itself: plausible with some interesting twists and turns.
This book is recommended for people aged 17+ due to several F-bombs and sex.

“Where there is love there is life.” – Gandhi
I finished this book two days ago, but still cannot find the words to describe it. The only thing that comes to my mind is that this book is Ode to Love and to Faith.
Lela and Malachi are on my Top 5 Best Couples shelf. Their relationship is so beautifully painful...They both know that their happy end is so fragile, their own future is so unsure. Their goals are different: Lela is here to find her best (suicided) friend and get out of here. Malachi's mission is to guard these (suicided) human beings and stay here. That is why, their (maybe) love is so heartbreaking.
"Don't touch me!"
I let my hands drop."I'm sorry, I.."
He turned around and leaned forward."What, Lela? What did you think touching me will accomplish? Do you know it get worse every time you do it? [...] Everytime you put your hands on me I don't want to let you go. And if you touch me now, I won't let you go."
Secondary characters were okay. Ana is someone I loved a lot. She was brave soldier/guard,but also she was so damaged inside. You know, those people who put a mask on their face in order to hide the big hole in their heart?
Nadia...oh Nadia! I hated this character. I know she was deeply depressive etc, but I didn't get her anyway. I couldn't forgive her egoistic behavior (yes, every person who think about suicide is a weak egoist for me). But as I quoted in the beginning, where there is love, there is life.Nadia was lifeless inside. Is there any hope for her, any redemption? You will see by yourself.
The major part of the book happens in the grey, morbid world of suicided people. Prepare yourself to literally feel the saddest part of human soul, their apathy, their emptiness. This subject (suicide) is very delicate and one wrong word can ruin everything. The author managed to avoid the trap. She brilliantly described the world full of inanimate souls who lost every interest in life. Those blank, pale, lifeless faces were so...I don't know, frightening? Miserable?
I read this book in audio edition so my opinion may be slightly different from the other reviews. I lived this book through the narrator's voice, saw everything through someone else's eyes. All I can say, that audio books are not for me. I prefer imagine my heroes/places by myself.Malachi's voice was horrible. He spoke so slowly, like he wanted to detach every syllable in the word. It sounded too bizaar. His accent was something I could not stand too.Hope in the book it wasn't the same.
Final note: 4,5/5

Okay...this book wasn't bad. Actually it was a little bit out of lot. Every mafia-romance-bad boys-meet-good girl books I read before was too cheesy and soft to be believable, but this one was realistic with some creepy moments.
What I liked: As I said before, this book was realistic and dealt with real life situations. Bullying, mafia's laws and how youngsters can be cruel sometimes.
What I disliked: WHERE IS THE POLICE? Really, after being beat to a pulp Elle never called the principle or the police. Hey, I'm talking here about real physical damages with broken bones and scars. Another problem was about the two main characters. I stopped to care about Nero and Elle when Lucca (Nero's big bro) was introduced and I was more than enthusiastic about his little chattering with Chloe (I crave to see their story). That being said, I was more in Chloe's story and her secrets (about scars) than Elle and Nero stuff. Chloe, this little scared bird, a ghost, a shadow, stole the very attention from our main heroes. Lastly, sometimes Nero was too overdone. I like to read about Alpha etc, but this boy (yes, the boy) was too mature for his age (18). He talked like adult, commanded like adult and behaved like adult. It was a little bit unreal. More than that, his macho-man behavior was ridiculous sometimes (he would make blush a Neanderthal).
My final note: 3/5
For mature audience

There are numerous books about dominant male and prude girl these days. I think Christian Grey has something to do with this. There are also books with biker/mafia related hero. I think Jax Teller (from Sons of Anarchy) something to do with this. I also think that the majority of these books are just a pale, ridiculous and tasteless copy of these characters. I remember telling to myself "I'm done with this stupid sh**"! Like for ever. And then...I saw this book. You can call it sadomasochism or whatever. I mean, why impose this torture when I clearly do not like it? The answer is simple: it was free. Haha. So, I gave it a chance. One.
Let me tell you, I really liked this book...and this (!!!) is something rare.
I'll skip the plot of the story (you can find it everywhere and it better explained) and will start with my like/do not like parts.
What I liked: Consistency. When the author decided to do her male character a bad, contract killer guy she wasn't kidding. Zeth is a murderer and act like a murderer. He is not mafia's boss and act like he isn't . I mean, he knows really well that some things can be dangerous and he is not a stupid enough to jump in a lion's maw. When it comes to his personal life, there he can be whatever he wants, whatever it's nature is. Zeth's past isn't shiny and awesome...so Zeth's personal life is mirrored with it. I think his sexual preferences are telling a lot of his true nature. During the few sex scenes we can see the real Zeth: dominant but kind, persuasive, but not egoistic. And he is not a stupid jerk. Lacey and Sloan are his weak spot, but he isn't a honey-honey with these girls, no. He cherish them, but not fall for them. He remains the Man, bad man with a heart.
When he finds out then Sloan can crack his thick body and mind's armor he is not pleased, but hey, what he can do?
"The whole moment is like an out-of-body experience and she's the only thing keeping me from floating to the ceiling".
I like Sloan. She is in constant inside battle with herself. There are things that she wants to do and there are things that she has to do. And believe me, this girl wants all but sweet kind of things.
What I really liked is how she feels about her job (in hospital).
" I'm a Grim Reaper. I may as well be the embodiment of death to these people. My face is one they will forever associate worst news they ever likely to receive".
" I always feel like a fraud when I put my civilian clothes back on".
Zeth is someone who abruptly entered her life. Zeth is someone who makes her body shiver and revolte at the same time. He is her first lover and her body cannot forget it even if her mind struggles with it.
"He is my maker".
Believe me, things that Zeth does to Sloan are hot and scare-the-sh*t-out-of-me things. But I loved it.
Like Zeth, Sloan's past is dark. Her beloved sister was kidnapped/missing. We witness during the whole book that Sloan's unconditional love to sister shatter her every limit, every boundary. She is strong, but not made of iron.
I really liked Lacey. Her messed up character was so well described. even if we do not know yet what was happened to her in the past and why she is so damaged, she is someone I'm interested in to follow. Her and Zeth's relationship is amazing. They are not like brother and sister, they are like two persons in rehab and one try to help another one.
What I didn't like: Ok, sometimes Zeth was a little bit too much (he demanded some things that are not usually demanded when you barely know a girl). There was a time when Sloan acted like a jerk, REAL jerk and I hated it,because it was stupid.
What I hated: The length of the book. WTF? Are you kidding me? 150 and something pages. Ok it was free, however,it is disrespectful to every reader to mess up with an unfinished story/scene/chapter. Plus, I saw next volume. It was about the same length (143 pages) and it cost like a great stand alone book. Nah,nah, nah. Dear author, if you wanted to make some business plan, you are failed. I hate buy a half of whatever it is (or 143 pages) for 3,16$ !!!
Final note:
