A Charmer of a book
le 24 juin 2008
Definitely one of the best of M. Keyes's novels I've read. This book is a woman's book for sure, but it's far from being a soppy one. To a certain extent, it reminded me of "Anybody out there?" where the main character is in such a state of denial that, even if reality is as cold as ice, the narration makes the reader smile despite eveything. In the same way, This Charming Man is close to reality and funnily original, but it is also heart-breaking in its subject matter. We laugh, we cry, to laugh again... The four women portrayed in the book are all, in one way or another, linked to Paddy, a charming man indeed... Not only is the book a collection of their stories, but it's also the story of what links those four women... What did Paddy do to them? The answer is revealed in the book little by little, which gives it a cause only a woman could fight for.
