Better than the first one!
le 28 février 2011
Stephen Clarke and his character Paul are still obsessed by two things: sex and shit, but "Merde Actually" is much better than the first episode of Paul's adventures in France, "A year in the merde". The story is slightly more realistic. Maybe the fact that I read it directly in English this time also influenced my impression. It is actually an easy reading; thus I advice French readers to read it in English. The story itself is not remotely fascinating, but the author knows how and when to add funny comments about French culture and society. For examples, he shares his surprise when he is told that "Le client est roi" in a country that beheaded its last king. There are many examples that would be worth being written in a notebook to be remembered! A nice reading for holidays, trains/flights...
