This second novel by the very talented Fiona Valpy takes us back again to the beautiful area of south west France to which we were first introduced in The French For Love. This time we meet Sara and are drawn into her life as she struggles to turn a beautiful old chateau into the setting for the perfect wedding while at the same time coping with meltdown in her own love life. The author's skill in depicting the different characters who make up these wedding weekends, allows the reader to enter in to each event as though a bona fide guest and as what feel like old friends from our first visit to the lovely town of Ste Foy la Grande , weave in and out of this story , I found myself totally immersed. A most satisfying read.
I'd suggest reading "The French for Love" book by this same author first, but even if you don't this is a great book all own its own. The author has done a fine job. It is a well written story with strong, identifiable characters, excellent descriptive settings and the right balance between romance and reality (never too soppy). I read this one first, then backtracked to "The French for Love", each was a wonderful read and I'll be putting Fiona Valpy on my watch list. I highly recommend both books.
